The wiki for this game says you can get custom soundtracks but I have no idea how. Could anybody give me a push in the right direction?

When in game - open easy drive with the right d-pad button 

Go down to soundtrack in the menu 

Push right d--pad

Select custom soundtrack 

it will open oyur xmb list of custom playlists

Select the one you wish to use

It should do. I believe the game also changes the tone of the music when you crash (much like the actual songs on the game). This is something unique to the PlayStation 3 version.
