Game » consists of 23 releases. Released Nov 05, 2007

The fourth main Call of Duty game ditches the World War II setting of the past games to tell a story set in contemporary times, and backs it up with a breakthrough multiplayer mode.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare--Review

Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare is the 4th true installment of the great COD franchise.  This time around, Infinity Ward takes a more modern route instead of the usual WWII story.

    Single Player
Call of Duty 2 is well known as one of the best fps single player experiences of all time. I totally agree with that. For the most part, COD4 delivers on all of that. But it still lacks a few things that made COD2 such a special game. First of all, when playing COD2, throughout the entire game there was a constant feeling of non-stop action all around you. Like there was no place to hide from the action. (Which is a great thing)  But in COD4,  that feeling is not there. I do understand that some missions are based on stealth, but even the big firefights in the game just seem to be downgraded a bit. I just don't get that feeling of being on a huge battlefield like I did with COD2. The maps just seem a little to linear. Which is a shame. But on the bright side, this is still a great single player experience. Though the story is short, it is still an extremely intense storyline.  Graphics are exceptional. Mix that with a perfectly smooth frame rate and you are left with great fun to be had.  Though it is short and not as action packed, Call of Duty 4's single player story still stands up to the COD name.

    Multiplayer
This is where COD4 really shines. The multiplayer experience has improved vastly over the last game.  The addition of Exp levels, unlockables, new gametypes, and a easy to use interface makes COD4's multiplayer insanely addicting.  You can jump in and out of games with ease.  Leveling up your rank is not just for show, it is also used to unlock new weapons, attachments, challenges, and abilities. Weapon and map balance seems to be greatly improved over the last games and the removal of manned vehicles brings back the fun of COD2's multiplayer. Its easy to jump into if you are new to the series, but its still very challenging for the experienced COD players. This is the only other Xbox 360 game to really give Halo 3 a run for its money in the multiplayer field. COD4's multiplayer is exceptional and I hope they continue to use and expand on this in future COD games.

Overall, Call of Duty 4 was able to successfully change to a new setting while still keeping that great COD feel. If you are new to the Call of Duty series, I would still recommend that you start out by playing COD2 then moving on to COD4. Either way, you just can't go wrong with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Jump right into the middle of the action! 0

I'll start out by admitting that I'm not a past fan of the Call of Duty games, though not out of dislike, more out of ignorance or just never having a chance to play them. Call of Duty 4 is my first true step into the series and on the subject matter I'd say it's akin to stepping out onto the middle of a battlefield without going through boot camp first. So yes, I died a lot, it's pretty realistic and hard, but most importantly it's intense and immersive. The single player story is short, I'll ge...

The 18-35 male is a valuable commodity. They have the kind of money that allows them to afford $500 consoles, and thus makes them the hot target for developers. They work part time jobs at your local supermarket and are usually in some form of debt in spite of their spending habits. In their free time, they enjoy multiple energy drinks, weed to ease the energy drink buzz, and UFC because there are fewer highs more sweet than a good ground and pound. And their hero? The soldier. The partially unk...
