Never thought I'd ever hear myself say this, but I think I'm actually excited for a CoD game for the first time since the first Modern Warfare. That trailer was badass and the futuristic setting was what this franchise needed. Much remains to be seen, but iteration on iteration, year after year, something has to break at some point. I think innovation, or creativity at least, may have creeped back in to the Call of Duty series. And I am super happy that it is Treyarch to be the ones to do it. What say you, Duders?

I'm still out. Havn't been back in since MW and doesn't seem like I will be playing a COD game anytime soon.

Yeah, it looks rad. I know it's cool to hate on Call of Duty, but cyber-punk. And old man Frank Woods, meaning that it's a continuation of the stuff from Blops, which means there's probably going to be some really crazy stuff going on story wise.

I'm glad Treyarch is changing it up. I wanted more Cold War at first, but changing it instead of bleeding that setting dry probably took quite a bit of talking to convince the higher-ups at Activision. Now let's just hope the game part is good.

I feel the exact same way. I was burned out with Black Ops, although I did enjoy the campaign and (to a lesser extent) the multiplayer in that game. I still have absolutely no desire to play MW3, but this game looks pretty interesting. I'm going to be keeping a close eye on it this year.

#6 Posted by GJSmitty (651 posts) -

Meh I will still probably pass on this one, unless it turns out to be really amazing.

#7 Posted by jking47 (1240 posts) -

I have not enjoyed a call of duty game since 2, I very much doubt this will bring me in. If I want a fast paced shooter I play CSS or Quake on PC, not a fan of CoD at all.

#8 Posted by Egg0 (169 posts) -

They didn't go far enough into the future. I'll get back on board when they have laser guns.

#9 Posted by Morningstar (2220 posts) -

Still out. The best Call Of Duty was the first one back in 2003.

#10 Posted by two_socks (235 posts) -

Nah, still out. I still don't care for any of the characters in CoD, Blops included. Putting me in the future with them isn't going to help. And I don't think they're taking their idea far enough, with the future stuff. Go hard or don't go at all.

So true I loved the first one way more than any other call of duty game. The only call of duty game I can say was not good is call of duty 3. That game was shit. Modern Warfare 3 isn't that great either.

#12 Posted by TonicBH (271 posts) -

Treyarch Call of Duty games have been pretty solid for the most part. Yes, even COD3. I'm not gonna be there day one, but I'll wait and see.

#13 Posted by MegaLombax (418 posts) -

I'm hoping it'll be a good one. I guess as long as the studio can deliver a creative and fun experience for gamers, then why should I deprive myself of that?

#14 Posted by Phatmac (5726 posts) -

Worth a rent. I really liked Black Ops so I knew that I would probably play it.

#15 Posted by TheSouthernDandy (3908 posts) -

I find myself kinda pulling or Treyarch due to them always being the underdogs and creating Zombies which I loved, but I enjoyed Black Ops a hell of a lot more then I did MW3 and this looks like it might be pretty rad. At least they're doing something new with the series. I'm hoping it turns out great.

Also horses.

HORSES.

#16 Posted by On1inepersona (119 posts) -

Ive never cared or played a Call of Duty game, but this has me excited

#17 Posted by WMWA (1162 posts) -

Per Jeff's Twitter: "We'll have more Black Ops II stuff (written and a podcast thing) at 9PM Pacific. There's... more to it than the trailer lets on."

I honestly feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. Four hours ago I made a snarky comment to a friend about why the hell sites are even posting CoD news stories, like we didn't know what it'd be anyways. And now I'll be waiting up until 1 to listen to a CoD centric bombcast. Damn, son

#18 Posted by SirPsychoSexy (1331 posts) -

I skipped MW3 because it looked like more of the same, and to be honest this probably is too. But since it has the new futuristic setting I think I will at least give it a shot this time around.

#19 Posted by Halberdierv2 (1876 posts) -

@Unknown_Pleasures: so what?

anyways, I'm Interested, if not a bit disappointed that they didn't make the story in the 80's/90's as I hoped they would. on the upside, Mark Lamia states that there will be more zombies in this interview.

#20 Posted by Vonocourt (2153 posts) -

I was turned off when I initially heard about it being futuristic, since I enjoyed the 60's feel of Blops. But that trailer renewed my interest.

#21 Posted by plaintomato (599 posts) -

It's hard to get excited about a COD game when there are other experiences to be had, and I know that whenever I do decide to go back to it there's always one that just came out and always a new one just around the corner. Kind of takes the anticipation out of it.

Seems like they hit a magic formula like Wii and WoW though; there are people that are not gamers, they are Call of Duty-ers, and they'll buy it every year just like they get their check-up, watch the Super Bowl and have a birthday - it's not a game for them, its THE game.

#22 Posted by Irvandus (2885 posts) -

They seem to be going crazy with the setting, and that's what I wanted. Also fucking Horse.

#23 Posted by joshthebear (2700 posts) -

Considering its still COD, I'm out. I haven't been interested since MW2 and it looks like that will continue.

#24 Posted by awesomeusername (4230 posts) -

I've been out since MW2 came out. I only play the CoD games for trophies and I borrow them.

#25 Posted by Getz (3137 posts) -

I will rent this for 2 dollars and probably have a lot of fun. In a way, I kind of like that the CoD games have such short, intense single player parts. Any longer and I'd have to pay more to see the whole thing. Then I'll just go back to playing something nerdy like Duels of the Planeswalkers.

#26 Posted by Mikemcn (7005 posts) -

I play COD for the crazy story, that story looks crazy, Horses! Robots! Explosions! Los angeles!

#27 Posted by LordXavierBritish (6320 posts) -

They are at least trying to do something different with the series, you have to give them some credit.

Also fighting fucking mechs on horseback what part of that is not incredible.

I liked the trailer for Black Ops and MW3. This one looked really bad to me. Maybe it's because I've become more of a PC gamer but man this shit is starting to look old. Not interested at all.

#30 Posted by SamFo (1547 posts) -

A future call of duty seems like a decent (yet obvious) idea. But I didn't think Black Ops 2 was the brand they'd use for their futrue game.

I'm more interested in Halo 4

#31 Posted by Jrinswand (1711 posts) -

That trailer doesn't make any sense. Why would you put legs on a tank?!

I dunno. I haven't played a COD game since the first Modern Warfare, so I highly doubt I'll start now. I got my fill of that particular brand of FPS back in 2007.

#32 Posted by WMWA (1162 posts) -

Yeah, that was my only real knock against it. This tech is realllllly started to wear out its welcome...then they cut to horses and I forgot everything.
#33 Posted by WMWA (1162 posts) -
@Jrinswand Cause, videogames
#34 Posted by StalkingTurnip (150 posts) -

At first I was angry because i dug Cold War Black Ops madness. But then horses and robots in the same trailers plus the fact that Treyarch is making it means either Robot Zombies or Horse Zombies or even better Robot Horse Zombies!

#35 Posted by PeasantAbuse (5138 posts) -

I've always liked CoD, and Black Ops was my favorite release since CoD4 so I'm expecting this to be pretty great.

I'm really interested to hear what Jeff means by "there is more to it than the trailer lets on".

#36 Posted by foggel (2764 posts) -

Treyarch haven't impressed me once.

#37 Edited by WilltheMagicAsian (1547 posts) -

Eh, I'll probably pick it up to play with friends for a month (Russian copy, as always with CoD games.) Although Treyarch probably developed one of the worst performing id tech games I've seen in a while. I haven't played Black Ops on PC since November 2011, because of how badly optimized it was.

#38 Posted by Dalai (7053 posts) -

I had no interest in the previous games and the same is true with CLOPS.

#39 Posted by Lukeweizer (2745 posts) -

Futuristic?

Also, I have to say that I got a distinctly MGS4 vibe from watching that trailer. I would be surprised if the game contains OctoCamo suits and cute little robots.

#41 Posted by fox01313 (5088 posts) -

While parts of the gameplay was a little lacking in Black Ops, I totally loved how they did the story framework with the conventional method of time travel (through retelling events) in Black Ops1. To me it just fit in how to throw the game in all kinds of crazy situations/environments through this method over the previous MW games.

Just hope that this time they either don't hire Sam Worthington or at least get someone who can do the accent of the resident of that area. Worthington just felt like he was from Australia but lived in Alaska for one week but knew that people would beat him up if he told people he wasn't from the U.S.

#42 Posted by BeondTheGrave (11 posts) -

I watched this video and at first went "Yeah, this looks cool" then about halfway through went, "wait i know EXACTLY how this game is going to play". I think that either this game needs to go more "real" in its action, slow shit down a bit, or get crazy like Singularity did and just have a shit load of crazy weapons to fight unusual enemies. Plus the amount of sections in that game that looked like it was on rails scares me after MW3. If it is as much on rails as MW3 then I am OUT. The biggest reason why I didnt buy MW3 yet (because i dont play multiplayer. . .)

#43 Posted by Toxin066 (3319 posts) -

I liked what I saw. I'll definitely be following stuff on it.

#44 Posted by Clinkz (1118 posts) -

Been out since modern warfare 2.

Feels good man. -my wallet

#45 Posted by Lumley (962 posts) -

Pushing CoD into the future was exactly what it needed. The only thing they can do with that series is to make it as ridiculous as possible, leave the realism to Battlefield.

#46 Posted by bobafettjm (1553 posts) -

Man I am super excited for this game. The new setting along with the reports that the game will be more non-linear with branching paths is super interesting to me.

@wmaustin55: holy crap..kinda exciting if Jeff is saying that about a COD game...I got MW3 and the COD fatigue hit me all at once when I started playing it. I loved Black Ops though. Also saw a video of the Treyarch head honcho saying there is branching storylines and non linear gameplay in the campaign so maybe this is what Jeff is hinting at??

Its all down to Bots and Offline for me. If Combat Training requires Xbox Live Gold I'll... I'll....
