SMG. But what really matters is Riffle. 

Depends as both are good though if you want something with a longer range the rifle would be the better choice. If in closer quarters & smaller maps the SMG might be better to the spray & pray functionality of that gun. Either way if you have scavenger pro up you should at least not have to worry about running out of ammo esp with the SMG, it's really up to personal choice.

I prefer Assault Rifles.  They are more versatile in that they have a wide array of attachments and are best a medium range, but can still get the job done in close or from a distance.  SMGs have a faster rate of fire, but you trade off some accuracy.  The AKs in both classes are the best IMO.

AK 74u is really the only reliable SMG and soon it will get patched. Assault Rifles all the way. 

Assault rifles.  Commando and Famas have the spray of a SMG with the accuracy at range of a rifle.  M16 and G11 might as well be sniper rifles, they're so accurate and powerful at range.  

It really depends on what works best for you.   There is no definitive class setup to the game.  I heard the galil assault rifle is supposed to be pretty good so try that out if you want.

AUG with ACOG Scope and Steady Aim is very effective at basically all ranges.

I prefer the riffle bat.

Depends on the situation. I like the Grail with an extended mag. Much better than an LMG.

You should try an assault rifle next. It might treat you better than the riffle variant.

it depends on the map and your style of play. if it's a small map like nuketown or you're more of a runner, then an SMG is good if you like to have more range and camp or hold certain positions then an Assault rifle is your best bet.

Assault Rifles, though there are situations where the 74u can still be pretty beastly.  The Famas is entirely too good from the the hip, actually better at close range than many SMGs (this is supposedly their specialty).  I don't have a single class at this point with an SMG, opting for the Galil, Commando, and Famas.

Assault rifles in most circumstances.  If you like to play aggressively and stick to areas that are not in long lines of sight, then the 74u reigns supreme, but it's the only SMG I would recommend if your going for a good score.  Overall, the assault rifles are better balanced.

If you like SMGs but want to switch to an assault rifle that doesn't feel too different from an SMG, go with the famas with sleight of hand perk. I run with a suppressor on smaller maps and a red dot on larger ones. It's not quite as peppy as an SMG, but I never feel under-powered at longer ranges.

 
Hrmmm, i think im the only one who goes with the Submachine gun because it has a wide variety of awesome weapons, like the Ak74u and the Spectre, which barely no one uses and that is disappoint.

AK74 with grip and rapid fire will dominate anything in close to medium range and if you're good, will also beat any gun that isn't the FAMAS at long range.

AR because it is more accurate and can shoot farther away. I don't like getting close where an SMG would be better.
