Found this kind of interesting to watch, I can understand recycling textures and certain map elements but cut/pasting a distinctive centrepiece building from one game to the next? I'm a little surprised that they would do that.

why would they model a building from scratch again when they most likely have a library of assets they can call on.

or do they have to start EVERYTHING from scratch just to keep you happy

@jetsetwillie: They don't, I just thought it was interesting that they would choose to use such a prominent building and to use one from a multiplayer map. People played hundreds of hours of COD4 multiplayer so it was going to be pretty noticeable to anyone familiar with the series, why not use one of the many other non-descript buildings they've created for the previous games? Just seemed like an odd decision to me.

Unless there are a bunch of reused buildings, I would consider that more of an easter egg.

Loads of games reuse buildings. Lots of the Uncharted co-op environments are taken straight from Uncharted 2.

I could not give a fuck.

Yeah, that feels more like a fun little random throwback to me. If you start seeing familiar buildings popping up all over the place, than I could understand it seeming cheap, but if it's just that one, whatever.

why should dev have to waste time remodelling everything for scratch every time.

i've spent quite a bit of time with 3DS max and i have to say that modelling is time consuming and very tedious.

this is why modellers tend to build up a library of assets of common object. so they can spend time modelling new thing or adding detail to models.

or they maybe finished early for the day that day on popped of to starbuck for a latte and biscuit

It's a tribute, just like these, which are more extreme since they are remakes of entire maps

Seems like this is a common thing in the series so nothing to get outraged about I guess.

Can't say I'm shocked, there have been remakes of old maps in past CoD games already. Still, makes you chuckle.

WTF? they are reusing buildings, reusing killstreaks, reusing weapons this game sucks what the hell were they thinking? Nah but seriously, why wouldn't they reuse stuff? I like that building in COD4. I hope they release some of the COD 4 maps again (for free although chances im guessing are slim).  Battlefiled 3 uses buildings from prevous games and some of those buildings were never very cool and its still a great game.

Yes. There is a building ripped straight out of Mirrors Edge with some color changes here and there and different lighting of course. I was watching a playthrough and recognized it immediately.

    I played a lot or Mirror's Edge.

All major developers do this. Its called an asset library. Every time someone models anything from a building to a car to a trash barrel it gets tossed into the library to be used in other games. Not a big deal.

Meh. I consider texture and mesh reusing efficiently and in the right amount smart, not offensive.

Dev dollars are dev dollars. Who knows what those those hours were used to do instead of building an original, though similar for all intents and purposes, building.

To people saying it's common to re-use something as big as an entire building in two different games:  Do you have examples?  I can't think of any.  And this is a 6 hour (?) game, and half of that (Jeff's review) is turret sequences?

I also noticed a couple of cut corners In the video review too, like the guy in the small boat using the same animation as Price from the end of MW2.  I wonder how many hours got put into making the SP in comparison to CoD4 and MW2.

Assets get reused often. It isn't a huge deal to see that they reused something here. Now if they were reusing entire levels and trying to pass them off as brand new content then you would have something to get upset about.
