Taken straight from another game's wiki, guess which one. If this is how it actually ends I will be speechless, I liked that despite everything you did in CoD4 you still failed in the end. On the other hand MW2 just left you guessing. If Vince and Jason really had that much input on the story I can easily see this ending in either the lamest way (above) or in the craziest way (that makes no sense).
 
How would you wrap up Modern Warfare if you were put in charge? Would you wrap it tightly a la Bioshock? (see how that worked out) Or leave it ambiguous like Bulletstorm?

You bust into Makarov's hideout, think you've killed him at the end, but then you find out it wasn't him. If this was really how it ended, I'd applaud whoever came up with it!

More Plausible - Soap gets shot at the last minute.
Least Plausible - Bobby Kotick appearing from the smoke and debris and forcing you to buy a fifteen dollar map pack.

Turns out all the terrorists were under the command of a dog in a control room.

The main character is now the last person to fight in the war for America, he blows some sh** up for whatever reason and goes through one last firefight  with whoever the enemy is. Then as he thinks he's won, he is called to one last mission. All of America's money is stolen. Just after the distress call, a shady helicopter swoops right over the main character. Somehow, the main character grabs onto the helicopter, in an attempt to highjack it and fly to safety, a man opens the helicopter door. It's Bobby Kotick! First with a puzzled look, then a greedy smile, Kotick says "You just don't give up. Do ya kid?" ***** tries to grab his pistol, but is then punched in the face by Kotick. His gun now gone, and only hanging on by one hand in the most cliché moment in video game history, ***** tries one last try to hit Kotick. He is blocked, and Kotick gives you the finger, and says "Goodbye, Sucka!" Then knocks you down. ***** keeps falling and, just as he's about to hit the ground, the game ends. When the credits start to roll, Kotick's evil voice says "Don't worry, you'll buy the next one. BUHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!"

Price and Soap uncover Shepherd as a dirty bastard scumbag through some convoluted and unnecessary plotline involving nuclear weapons, become allied with the SAS again, kick Makarov's arse into oblivion and allow Britain to annex Russia and make it into New New England. Then Price becomes the PM of New New England with his deputy PM Soap MacTavish and they are celebrated world-class heroes.
 
Watch this actually happen in MW3, if MW2's story was any indication of how ridiculous this series got in one installment.

everybody stops fighting and spontaneously burst out in song and dance during the final mission

Captain Price and Soap enter the final room to kill Makarov but then an explosion happens which causes Makarov's face to rip off revealing that he is Captain Price's twin brother Liquid Discount. Soap has to disable a nuke inside of the empire state building while Captain Price and Liquid Discount fist fight. Soap disables the nuke by rocket jumping after a turret sequence. Captain Price punches Liquid Discount in the face causing him to explode sending an emp to the moon which causes to moon to come and hit the earth. Giant Alien Transformers appear and Soap must defeat them with a turret sequence with the help of Commander Shepard. After all the Giant Alien Transfromers or GATs are all Charlie Foxtrot or dead Soap learns that he is actually a clone of of the real Soap who is actually Captain Price and Captain Price is actually just drunk at a strip club at the entire time. Another explosion happens and then credits.
 
Oh and one of the characters you play as dies.

The entire game-world explodes and a teaser for Michael Bay's Call of Duty appears (produced by Steven Spielberg of course). The teaser then explodes, then your T.V. explodes, then your PC/PS3/Xbox explodes, then your controller explodes and finally your remaining self-respect explodes once you realize what you've bought into*.

The death star come. Soap and Price get on a rocket to attack its core. Near the core the rockets malfunction and crash. Soap lays there injured as price rips out the core with his bare hands. they surf the explosion to escape. as they return to earth they embrace in a passionate kiss and have wild, mid air sex. Upon returning to Earth they learn they are father and son. This causes Price to jump out a windows, and Soap gouges his eyes out and wanders the Earth. Meanwhile the Death Star's explosion happens next to the moon making the moon crumble. This leads to a rain of debris on Earth causing a post apocalyptic wasteland.

and they all had lemonade!

If Infinity Ward were still what it was, I could see it ending with Makarov being the closest thing left to a good guy with him maybe teaming up with Price and Soap to fight off the Americans meanwhile Keith David's crew keeping pushing through Russian soldiers until they learn the truth about what Shepherd did. Now Infinity Ward is a different beast entirely and with Activision seemingly going out of their way to make sure no one sees any of the already known characters, I can imagine it being far more generic than what I proposed.

The entire world is destroyed, thus, a 4th Modern Warfare would never come into existence, or any other Call of Duty.

Despite their best efforts, Soap and Price could only watch as the West and East destroyed the world with their conflict. The conflict feared during the Cold War brought to fruition by warmongerers and zealots under the nose of those who were supposed to only remember the Great Wars.
 
As a last ditch effort to save humanity from the madness they wrought themselves, few managed to escape the chaos into self-sufficient bunkers deep underground. There, small pockets of society would remain, shielded from the radiated and smoldered surface they once called home.
 
Generations would be born and die in these facilities, and the story of Price and Soap would be overshadowed by the telling of humanity's oldest tales. Stories of the goodness of humankind, and where they went astray.
 
But these vaults, that were meant to last until the end of time, were not immune to the folley of man. Unable to sustain itself for much longer, you and only you must venture up into the unknown to find what they need to repair their water purifier, or everyone buried at what you call home, your friends, family, all of them, will die.
 
You take a deep breath and ride the rickety lift to the surface. You can feel an eerie presence sparked at your spine shiver through your body like a shockwave. Thinking about all those people, your ancestors, who rode this very lift down so long ago.
 
Escaping the madness, the walls of fire, the bellowing clouds, their remains await you as your ride makes an abrupt stop. The door to heaven is before you, and as it opens the divine light pierces your eyeballs. But the deception doesn't last. This is hell.

I don't know the science behind it all. They say it has something to do with radioactive isotopes. All I know is: We can't hold out much longer.
