Although the cape may be used to give the player power-ups, it is generally used for aesthetic purposes as it makes the superheroes that bit more awesome and gives the villains some bad-assery.

While most video games feature capes that are seemingly indestructible, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City feature capes that take damage as the game goes on. However, this damage is not any sort of real time cape damage simulator, as the damage only occurs at specific moments in the game as part of the story, and the rips and tears do not affect Batman's ability to glide with the cape.
