Cargo Commander

A 2D sidescroller "action platform" game from small Netherlands developer Serious Brew, in which players jump and drill through cubic cargo containers in space as the eponymous Cargo Commander.

Concepts

2D

Sure, these days have almost every game sporting the newfangled 3D, but way back when, everyone had to live with plain old 2D. 2D, or two dimensions, limit the game to scrolling backgrounds, but some games even now make use of this basic concept.
Achievements

Achievements are extra challenges added into video games that sometimes carry a point value or unlock bonus material, and are sometimes solely for bragging rights.
Breath Meter

This shows you how long you have until you start wishing you had gills. When your breath runs out, you may take damage, or you may expire right there, depending on how sadistic the game designers were!
Corporation

Either a force of over arching evil or a parody of the real world. The corporation is a common concept found in Video Games.
Currency

Currency has all forms in video games. It is used to buy characters, vehicles, weapons, and more.
Death

The main line of distinction between victory or failure in video games, death is the process of a biological being ceasing to be alive.
Destructible Environment

A destructible environment means the player has the ability to destroy his/her surroundings. This allows players to use the environment to their advantage.
Digital Distribution

Digital Distribution is the concept of purchasing digital media via the internet and having it sent to the user directly via the internet. No physical representation of this content is given but the content resides on the users hard drive and is legally owned by them.
Explosion

A powerful release of energy. This energy is usually expelled in all directions very quickly, typically giving off orange or red flames.
Fire

In games, fire can be an obstacle, a tool, a weapon, or a solution. Just don't play with it...unless you really want to.
Gravity

Gravity is a physical phenomenon, specifically the mutual attraction between all objects in the universe. In a gaming setting, gravity determines the relationship between the player and the "ground," preventing the player or game objects from flying off into space, and hopefully acting in a predictable/realistic manner.
Headshot

Most modern shooting games add the realistic touch of rendering shots to the cranium instantly fatal. Glorious for the shooter, kind of a bummer to the shootee.
In-Game E-Mail

Sending or receiving fake email inside a game.
Indie Royale

Indie Royale sells bundles of independent games for cheaper than they would cost purchased separately. Purchasers can choose to pay more than the current minimum to lower the minimum price for others.
Jump

It's arguably the one move that symbolizes the medium to those outside it. The ability to jump, be it onto building, onto platforms, or onto skulls, is one of the all time most important abilities ever put in a video game.

A leaderboard is a way for players of any multi-player game to know where they rank within the game's community.
Loading Screen Advice

Some games will give the player advice during loading screens. Most of the time the advice is useless and/or extremely obvious.

This concept is for games in which the main character is male.
Melee

From Beat-em-ups to fighting games to modern FPS, one dude hitting another has made an enjoyable pastime.
Monster In A Box

You're minding your own business looting well-earned containers and chests, but instead of gold or jewels or weapons, out jumps a deadly monster from inside the box!
Permanent Death

A concept usually found in "roguelike" games where the game must be restarted if you are killed but also found in strategy games such as Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics where characters die if they are defeated in battle. Often used as a significant plot device.
Procedural Generation

Procedural Generation refers to the creation of content algorithmically as the game is running. This content generally coexists with standard, authored content; the two are not mutually exclusive.
Profanity

Swearing, cursing, call it what you want. It is an expression of anger or frustration, in most cases.
Retail Games with Steam Activation

Some games bought at physical stores and online retailers can be activated on Steam using its CD key. Some come with compulsory Steam activation, while for others it is optional.
Side-Scrolling

Side-scrolling games present the world as viewed perpendicular to the direction the characters are facing on screen. With a heavy focus on lateral movement, objectives are often met by moving from one end of a stage to the other.
