I call ice dude!
Hooray for title updates! I caught this link to The Behemoth's forums on Destructoid tonight, and it sounds like the long-awaited fix to Castle Crashers has finally gone through and will be out in a matter of hours.

The exact time, for those of you trying to synchronize your watches, is 2AM Pacific Standard Time on 12/24. That's under four hours away from the time I'm writing this. Insane!

I really wanted to play Castle Crashers, but once it started erasing my progress every time I moved my hard drive from one system to another, I sort of lost my taste for it. A lot's changed between then and now, and I'm still left wondering if I'll ever be able to love again.

Perhaps I'll finally find out tomorrow. Oh, and the patch will be out then, too. Wait, what were we talking about?

Considering I haven't played this yet and therefore am not burned out, I'll probably pick it up now.

better late than never i suppose

#4 Posted by ManMadeGod (1239 posts) - 4 years, 5 months ago

Nice, I have been waiting months for this update to come out. I didn't want to end up like Jeff and not only lose my game save but also my desire to play it (aka wash $15 down the drain).

wasn't this released in the summer?

a little bit late for a patch if you ask me, but with an small time studio like the behemoth is guess it's acceptable.

Jeff Gerstmann made this thread, of Jeff and baby Jeff fame.

They made the patch a long time ago, but Microsoft has just now finally let it through.

Don't care if others had problems this is the best arcade game of the year.

#10 Posted by Bucketdeth (7938 posts) - 4 years, 5 months ago

A little on the slow side.

#11 Posted by Gorillawhat (1260 posts) - 4 years, 5 months ago

Maybe they just kept the game broken on purpose and are issuing out the patch as a Christmas present in an attempt at world domination!

#12 Posted by TwoOneFive (9449 posts) - 4 years, 5 months ago

wow, it only took them four fucking months. this could have made it on a lot of peoples Downloadable GOTY lists if the online worked right.

#13 Posted by Rowr (4858 posts) - 4 years, 5 months ago

FINALLY!

YAY!

But is it too late?

#14 Posted by TravisTouchdown (9 posts) - 4 years, 5 months ago

Maybe I'll actually buy this game now.

#15 Posted by Rowr (4858 posts) - 4 years, 5 months ago

I wouldnt buy it for a few days, just to see if Microsoft will try to push it under any deal.

ofc they probably wont.

#16 Posted by MaddProdigy (1040 posts) - 4 years, 5 months ago

bout time. I wasn't even moving my hard drive or doing anything out of the ordinary and it randomly deleted all my gear/pets every time i stopped playing. might get back into it now...pissed me off though.

#17 Posted by NateDogg (458 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

I was wondering if other people had this issue as well...

I had bought the game a while ago but never really got into playing it, and when I finally did, my game was never there when I came back.. It was ridiculous.. I wasn't sure if they wanted you to play thru with no saves or something but thats just nuts.. thank god for "Game Updates"

Sweet. Just as I waited till Alien Hominid XBLA got fixed before ponying up for it, I guess I'll be buying Castle Crashers now. Better late than never, indeed.

Is it fixed?? Anybody know yet??

#21 Posted by PapaLazarou (702 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

Bring it to STEAM!

#22 Edited by FalcomAdol (133 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

I can confirm that you can still remove the patch the old way (hard drive "maintenance"), and still powerlevel with the boomerang.  Just ran a new thief character from level 1 to level 21 in about 20 minutes :D

#23 Posted by MooseBurger (32 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

Just in time for me to get my 360, FINALLY!  I know, I'm lame.

#24 Posted by dsplayer1010 (2227 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

Castle CRashers is one of those games that I never had a chance to play. Maybe now I'll finally check it out.

#25 Posted by RHCPfan24 (8608 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

Maybe I should get this game now; actually, I will.

#26 Posted by monkeyman864 (77 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

That's great! I just bought this game last night! I haven't noticed the bugs, but I know of them. It's pretty tough game alone too. ;__;

#30 Posted by GalvanizedNails (552 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

Me and my friends actually just had a marathon session of Castle Crashers. I was just like 'why not try this game instead of playing COD or something' and they all loved it so much that we were up until 5 in the morning beating the game. Now they are all going to buy it and coop will work fine hopefully!

I got this game shortly after it was released but after hearing about the save file problem, and then experiencing it, I decided to wait for the update.  Months went by and I forgot about it while playing other games. I guess I can finally play this game, been looking forward to it for too long now.

Its not just between systems.  It erases the data on the same system too.

I was about level 30 when my Elite got RROD.  I sent it into MS and they fixed it and send the same console back.  Serial numbers match but MS updates the Console ID which means you need to download your XBLA games again.

Well it also means if you played Castle Crashers you lost all your progress.  I wasnt too happy to find this out and instead of replaying to get my progress back I said screw it and I just wont play anymore.  Which means any future paid DLC I would have bought will also now be ignored.

How could something so basic be broken and how could it take months to patch it?

#34 Posted by DoctorScribbler (17 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

I said I woulnd't play it until a patch came out and then a couple days ago, I get a message on my Xbox from Dan Paladin telling me there finally is a patch; just in time for CHRISTMAS! So I've finally gotten the game and it is magical. The music is love-worthy and the graphics are sublime. Get it if you haven't already and also buy BRAID. This and Braid are on top of the Arcade games list.

I got really excited to play with my friends when we first got it. The coop was always broken so we were really happy to hear about the patch. Then we used it and the coop is still broken. Guess it didn't work too well. We eventually got to play together by connecting to someone else's server and inviting eachother. Sadly, we had a good half second of lag between button presses. (if not a full second at times) Guess we're gonna have to wait until Title Update 2.

About time. Why did it take microsoft so long to approve the patch?

The Behemoth are a team of about eight people. That means they have pretty much unlimited creative freedom, but also that if something goes wrong, it will take a long time to fix. Just deal with it.

#39 Posted by Rowr (4858 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

I gave it a quick whirl, seems fixed.

I havent extensively tested it tho.

#40 Posted by Media_Master (3283 posts) - 4 years, 4 months ago

@Jeff: i need help, does the patch recover your memory or just fixes the bug, plz help!
#44 Posted by jking47 (1041 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Necroposting ftw?

#45 Posted by nick_verissimo (1321 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago
@Samurai: Dude, that patch is over 2 years old.  If you've lost your game save, you'll probably just have to start a new game. A bummer, but that game isn't very long anyways
