So how comes Giant Bomb hasn't done a review for Castlevania yet?

#1 Posted by TheNegativeDude (4 posts) -

They only have the quick look up but no review. any ideas?

#2 Posted by Dominoes (36 posts) -

Same reason they haven't reviewed Vanquish I guess. Haven't got around to it yet?

#3 Posted by AjayRaz (12423 posts) -

they don't do reviews for all games. usually a quick look will be enough to show what the staff think about a game.

#4 Edited by CookieMonster (2416 posts) -

They don't review every game they do a quick look of. Most of the time, a quick look is enough.

Edit: God Dommot I must be faster next time.

#5 Posted by Yummylee (21467 posts) -

Not a game they're all too arsed about. There's plenty of 'em, and its no surprise when they've got so many games they have to personally select to invest time into reviewing.

#6 Edited by SethPhotopoulos (5205 posts) -

They don't have to and they aren't too enthused by it.

Few podcasts ago made it sound like Alex is on the Castlevania review if it gets a review at all.
add to the fact that the podcasts makes a good source for general consensus on the quality of games.

Because digging through 2 and a half hours of podcast is a completely efficient way to get an opinion on one specific game.

Oh! It's efficiency he was after and not the opinion of the GB staff (which would mean he probably listens to the podcast anyway)
...well just use Meta Critic...link at metacritic.com.........thread over.

To those saying that they don't review every game out there, keep in mind that this is one of those games they said they'd review.

@TheNegativeDude: They're still working on the review for Red Dead Redemption.

There's a Quick Look. If you don't have time for that either, why not just ask one of the staff directly? I don't know if you'd get an answer, but it's better than nothing.

Brad and Alex's review of Castlevania sounded like this:  "it's alright".

#17 Posted by MattyFTM (14363 posts) -

There are a lot of new releases out at the moment and they don't have the time or resources to review every single game that comes out.

That is a completely valid point and it was the quick look which initially sold me on the game.  As much as I'd enjoy a review, I probably wouldn't agree with it if they don't think it was a great game.  Probably best we don't get one after all.
#19 Posted by HandsomeDead (11863 posts) -

It doesn't sound like any of them particularly like it so I'm not surprised there's no review.

#20 Posted by TheNegativeDude (4 posts) -

yeah just noticed no review for Vanquish either. i just figured castlvania was a big enough game for them to review. i know they dont review all games, but they usually skip smaller titles.

Alex was gonna review it but in the middle of playing it, it sounds like he just said "fuck this game" and stopped. Probably would have gotten 3 or 2 stars.

I think part of the problem was that it was too big. 2 discs worth of stuff is a lot of game, and since this is the big release season they probably figured that it didn't look good enough to skip reviewing other games.

Having 3 people to review games is probably your answer.

Wat.

This entire website was designed to be about the smaller titles that we care about, not just the Call of Duty's and Halo's.

Castlevania is complete shit dont buy it. Let's move on.

#27 Posted by MackGyver (538 posts) -

At least Castlevania: Lords of Shadow got a quick look. Vanquish deserved the same but no dice.

#28 Posted by nickux (1385 posts) -

Since they don't review every game, it's sort of why Quick Looks are good because they often take the place of a review. Especially a game like Castlevania Lords of Shadow which takes so long to beat they just don't have the time, I'm guessing. There are some user reviews for it on here (like mine!)

#29 Posted by Dudacles (1445 posts) -

Have they done a Quick Look of the full version of Vanquish yet? That's a game Ryan seemed quite positive about, not to mention it's also a rather short game to beat the first time through (4 to 5 hours should do the trick).

#30 Posted by c0l0nelp0c0rn1 (1806 posts) -
@CookieMonster: I heard enough of their opinions on it in the podcast so I am neither, sir. I would, however, like a convenient place to look at their opinions that's where bombcast breakdown comes in.
#31 Posted by RavenX302 (258 posts) -

Who cares? Why do people want a review of every single game from this site? many sites have reviewed these games...there is no shortage of scores and articles you can read from else where. They have certainly talked enough about these un-reviewed titles that you can easily form a star rating from the way they sound, if it is that important.

@RavenX302:  hey i just wanted to read their review. i dont get why people are getting so defensive listing metacritic links and what not.

GB is one of the few websites i care about when it comes to reviews, 1up, eurogamer, gametrailers, and g4 being the others, but since i dont base my purchases based on their opinion, i buy the game and THEN read their reviews just to see what they thought of the game.

They have reviewed every game i've played before this so after I platinumed this game a couple of days ago, i started reading all the reviews.  it came as a surprise to me when i realized they never reviewed it. That's all.
#34 Posted by Hourai (2795 posts) -

There's only three full-time reviewers, so yeah. I question their priority sometimes, but Giant Bomb has never really been about reviews anyways.

#35 Posted by lucas_kelly (769 posts) -

I'm still waiting for the Red Dead Redemption review.

#36 Posted by LordAndrew (14426 posts) -

I'm still waiting for the Henry Hatsworth review.

@MackGyver: Vanquish does have a Quick Look.
#38 Posted by Diamond (8634 posts) -

It would be about as worthwhile as a Demon's Souls review.  I wouldn't even want to see it done.

#39 Posted by captain_clayman (3320 posts) -

a) it's long
b) there's a shit ton of better games that just came out.

#40 Posted by Cold_Wolven (2216 posts) -

I think the quick look is good enough, shows you what the game is like and how the staff really feel about the game. Lately they've had a lot of games to review, how they managed to review Fallout: New Vegas amongst the rest of them is quite remarkable given how many reviewers there are for Giant Bomb. Occasionally they'll get help from Alex Navarro but it's mainly Jeff, Ryan and Brad.

#41 Edited by rav84 (28 posts) -

I actually thought it was a pretty damn good game; Maybe not quite as good as say, God of War III, but good. I don't think the length of the game really has anything to do with it to be honest. I mean if a game such as Fallout: New Vegas can get a review and a quick look, then clearly playtime is not the issue. I don't know whether this speaks to the staff's dislike of the game itself, just that I believe its more likely that they have to many games to review as well as other duties.

Edit: Ack... to slow (In regards to previous poster mentioning Fallout: New Vegas)

#42 Posted by MackGyver (538 posts) -
@Underachiever007:
Not really. Giant Bomb does have videos of it in the form of trailers and features but not specifically a Quick Look.
#43 Posted by Underachiever007 (2468 posts) -
@MackGyver: I consider the "Ten Minutes of Vanquish" video a Quick Look. Ryan's playing it and it's got commentary from him and Brad.
#44 Edited by PenguinDust (12481 posts) -

After watching the QL of Castlevania, I don't think anyone at GB is motivated enough to write up a review for the game.  Not every game needs a written review.  I get more info from QLs and the Bombcast then the official reviews.

#45 Posted by sarahsdad (1087 posts) -

Also, I know I've heard it mentioned a few times on the bombcast that if they get caught up doing reviews for a couple of games, and it gets to be a few weeks after a game comes out, there probably won't be an official review.
I'm pretty sure the last time this came up was actually with Red Dead, where by the time they could spare someone for it, they didn't feel it would be worth it.

#46 Posted by Bouke (1402 posts) -

I do wonder if Alex actually finished the game... it would be nice if he could post his thoughts after finishing it! I already bought the game so i'm not really waiting for a review.
