    Hey,

I have hardly seen anything from this game, but it seems to be some puzzle/anime/softcore porn game. Is this the case?

If so, why are people so hyped about it? I must be missing something...

    Thanks.

I have no interest in actually playing it either, but as I understand it's the story/characters are the main appeal. And the sex part is only a framing device for the plot.

This is more or less it. The trailers make the game look a lot more explicit than it actually is. What little sex is in there results in an almost immediate camera cutaway and transition to next scene, with the nudity never revealing any nipples or genitalia. A lot of western games are way more extreme and brazen with their use of sex than Catherine is, which is ultimately no more intense than an average PG-13-ish sort of movie. The game is much more about the implications of having sexual relationships than the actual act of sex itself and it benefits greatly because of that. I think Atlus is just as aware as the rest of us that there are plenty of other games that already do the soft/hardcore thing as it is and that there's just nothing it could reasonably contribute on that front.
