Cave have made it clear that social games for phones are the company's future. Castle Creator, a social castle-building game they originally released for Japanese mobile phones, was successful and is coming to iPhone. They're co-developing an unnamed (interviews point to it being SimCity-branded) casual game with EA. They've recently entered a partnership with GREE (a Japanese company that provides various services and casual games for mobile phone users) who have bought $2.3 million worth of shares in Cave.
But what does this mean for the hardcore arcade shoot 'em ups the company has been known for? Cave's COO Mikio Watanabe puts fans' fears to rest in a recent Facebook post.

To all our overseas arcade game fans. Consider picking up our future arcade boards via mail order! If we sell 500 copies, we can make a new arcade shooter.
Also, a request for our international fans. We've translated the CAVE homepage into English. We're also supporting our international fanbase via twitter, Ustream and facebook. Please give us your comments. Our English-speaking staff read what you write and pass that on to the creators here.
So for now, at least, arcade development will continue and console ports will most likely keep getting localized (or at least released -- Deathsmiles IIX was put out untranslated in America). Let's hope it stays that way.
