Chris Redfield is one of the original characters in the Resident Evil series, and the protagonist of Resident Evil 5.
Backstory
Chris' early life is essentially unknown besides for that he was once close to his sister, Claire, but the death of their parents fractured their relationship with Chris turning to the military while Claire focused more on her education. However, while serving in the United States Air Force he had a change of heart and opted for a career in law enforcement, first joining the S.W.A.T., where he first became friends with Barry Burton, before taking a job in the Raccoon City Police Department, eventually getting promoted to their elite S.T.A.R.S. unit.Resident Evil
Arriving at the Spencer Mansion with the intention of investigting a series of apparent cult murders, Chris instead finds the downed chopper of Bravo Team before being chased into the mansion itself by several Cerberus dogs. The only real difference between this opening and the Resident Evil: Director's Cut intro scene is a shot of Chris smoking which wasn't included in the original version.Arriving in the main hall with Wesker and Jill, Barry nowhere to be found, the team hear a shot. Assuming that the gunshot is Barry, Chris goes to investigate but only finds the dead body of Bravo Team's Kenneth and the first zombie. Returning to the main hall to alert Wesker and Jill, he finds the place deserted and has to navigate the mansion on his own until he meets Richard who has been poisoned by Yawn, the giant snake. Instead of finding him right after the battle as in Jill's scenario, he's with Rebecca Chambers, Bravo Team's medic. From here, she sporadically helps Chris on his adventure, most notably playing Moonlight Sonata in order to open the passage for the Gold Emblem. Eventually discovering that it was Wesker who set them up, Chris takes down the Tyrant and destroys the Mansion with its self-destruct mechanism, escaping with Rebecca and Jill. Due to the lack of involvment from Barry Burton, this version of the story is not deemed as being the canonical and Jill's version was accepted as canon until the events of Code Veronica X.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Following the events of the first game, Chris went missing. However, when Claire got captured by Umbrella while searching for him, he reappeared on the scene and set off to Rockfort Island to find her. Realising she had been taken to Antarctica instead, he travels to the Umbrella facility there where he faces Alexia Ashford, destroying her in her final phase before almost immediately running into Wesker again. This time, the two fight in a cave under the facility, with Wesker definitely having the upper hand until Chris manages to drop iron girders on Wesker, giving him enough time to reach the jet and escape with his sister.Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Chris reappears again here in the 'Umbrella's End' chapter of the game set in a Russian base in 2003. Fighting alongside Jill Valentine again for the first time since the original game, the duo storm the base with the intention of eliminating Sergei Vladimir and the Red Queen A.I. Fighting through the infected installation, they eventually reach and eliminate the T-A.L.O.S. Project: Umbrella's most dangerous B.O.W. to date.Resident Evil 5
While the plot of the game is yet to be revealed, it is confirmed that Chris will return as the main character alongside franchise newcomer Sheva Alomar.
