The Annually Designated Festive Happiness Period Thread (2012)

#1 Edited by Fattony12000 (7037 posts) -

Greetings, to you one and all, my fellow duders!

It's that time of the year again, an icy chill fills the air, the ground is cold and hard underfoot (except if you're in the Southern Hemisphere, you damned heathens), but to many of us it's a time of warmth, happiness and peace in our hearts. If you don't feel any of those things, or you lack a heart with which to feel them, not to worry! You are still more than welcome in this joy-filled thread.

This is a place where I would like you all to talk about what you are wishing for this year, or what you might be wishing for others. Are you planning good times with friends and family, maybe some good food and drink and general merrymaking? Have you been looking forward to unwrapping that shiny new video game you've been looking forward to all year? Or are you content with cuddling up to your significant other on the couch, whilst watching Die Hard and eating pigs in blankets?

Whatever (or however) you plan to make it through this time of the year, I personally want to wish you all the very best, may you find just a little bit of comfort in these dark times, a respite from the troubles of times gone by.

Unless we make Christmas an occasion to share our blessings, all the snow in Alaska won't make it 'white'.

In case you hadn't guessed, I am mostly looking forward to cuddling up to my significant other on the couch, whilst watching Die Hard and eating pigs in blankets. Alongside spending lazy mornings, afternoons and evenings with good food and in good company.

After beating The Walking Dead and Spec Ops: The Line recently, I don't know what happy is.

Come and have some fun in the sun with Far Cry 3!

Is Die Hard officially a Christmas movie now? I mean, I know it takes place during Christmas and all, so people seemed to kind of joke about it being a Christmas movie, but now I see it mentioned often when talking about Christmas movies.

Anyway, I shall find comfort and happiness come this Friday, at approximately 2:00, when I turn in the fifth and last of my final exams and walk out of there like a boss. And then I'll go home and start my merry Christmas vacation by finishing up Max Payne 3 and/or starting The Walking Dead.

I'm going to need one hell of a dose of It's A Wonderful Life.

I'm seeing a distinct lack of Christmas themed avatars in this thread so far!

Also we got first snow of the season here today, perfect timing I suppose.

I will be working Christmas and Boxing day. I picked up some extra shifts at work because the extra pay can not be passed up on. So I will be at work on Christmas being screamed at by all the fine owners of HTC smartphones because they are too lazy/dumb to google their problem. The Joys of Tech Support.

I'm most excited that my pimp-ass brother will be staying with us for the week.

@believer258: Die Hard has been a Christmas movie since 1988.

I just dealt with a week from hell and ended up spending most of my money ($2000+) on fucking vehicular repairs. So, I'm just hoping to hide for the next month and work on restocking my poor bank account.

I CAN'T AFFORD JOY

@believer258: Die Hard is a Christmas movie. It's a violent, action-filled Christmas movie, but it's a Christmas movie all the same.

It's been a Christmassy film in my household for about fifteen years now, there ain't no joke about it! Here are some more dope Christmas films for you to peruse:

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Children of Men (2006)
The French Connection (1971)
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)
Batman (1989)
Brazil (1985)
Lethal Weapon (1987)
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)
Scrooged (1988)
The Apartment (1960)
Dreams of a Life (2011)

We keep Christmas in our hearts. Or, maybe, someone else's heart that we keep inside a jar. MUHAHAHA!

That's a rough shift, I hope you find the time and means to gain some respite at some point over this Official Happiness Period Of Two Thousand And Twelve. We salute you and your service.

One More Thing...

Also, I LOVE and am THANKFUL for Thursday Night Throwdown, but I need some of that Christmas spirit to bump this thread for me. Unless, you guys all hate Vinny and Drew as much as the rest of this godforsaken community. Damn their eyes. Halloween.
