A friend at work told me to look into playing Chromehounds.  I have not really played any mech games before though.  Does this game game play well to pick up and play (easy to learn the controllers?)  From reading the wiki it reminds me of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts because of the way you can addon to your mech.  Just wanted some input before I rent it.

Chromehounds is fantastic, and I had a lot of fun playing it with my friends when it was first released...but the single player is absolute trash.  You can get through all of the missions in just a few hours, but it's not nearly as fun or satisfying as the multiplayer.  To make things worse, even if there is still a good number of people playing this online, the multiplayer isn't something you can easily get into during a short rental period.

Thanks for the reply MB.  I will give it a rent but something tells me I may not be into it as I thought I would.  Thanks again!

Man, if only you got into a year or two ago, then you would've experienced the amazingness of online play, where everyone had ingenious designs, no one cheated, and no one tried to screw you over. And the people on your squad were really chill.

I quit last year, because of so much cheating, and haters in the game that didn't want to play fair. It's an amazing game, but the people that once played this game, are slowly leaving the game and playing something else and not looking back.

Give it a try, you might get hooked, you might not.

I thought the multiplayer was dead for it

I know that's what I did. I have to agree the designs that people came up with and how everyone would then try to mimic that new design was a lot of fun, but there was an influx of cheaters and cheap-ass players who took the fun out of playing the game.

@Altered_Confusion: Yeah that's why I left. There was that one map in Sal Kar where people would base dial you or whatever, with missiles and howies instantly. That pissed me off pretty bad..oh and then the people who would leave right before the match ended so you wouldn't get any of the points.

@nick69: I never really got any quitters. Then again  my buddy and I played mostly late at night and it was usually against Japanese players. Those dudes are almost always good sports, I can't count the number of times we got congratulatory messages in broken English after a good battle.

We played a hunter/killer type team. We almost always were playing 2v2 - he would be a light commander type unit, and I was usually a biped armed with four cannons. He'd find them, I'd kill them. What we would do is fan out in a V from our base and try to find the enemy, then close in on them and finish them off. If one snuck around and tried to kill our base, then we'd just go back and take care of him before he could kill the base by himself.

I think out of the hundreds of matches we played, we only won a handful of matches by destroying the other team's base. Good times.

@MB: It was really towards the end when I started seeing quitters, and cheaters. Before that, I remember spending so much time with my squad and all that, like every day, doing missions, coordinating attacks against humans, and just trying to get up to the legendary rank.

I really hope Chromehounds 2 will come out...but the chances of that happening are slim to none..
