LOOK AT THAT THING.

It will always feel, look, and sound ridiculous to outfit the 3DS with the Circle Pad Pro, even for games like Resident Evil: Revelations, where it legitimately enhances the experience.

Since the 3DS XL will not include a second stick, Andriasang (via Famitsu) reports Nintendo will also issue another stick add-on.

There’s no word on when it will arrive, how much it will cost, and whether it’ll remain in Japan (doubtful), but if you’re worried about upgrading and having that second stick, it’s no longer an issue.

I still do not expect Nintendo to support the Circle Pad Pro outside of how it was handled within Kid Icarus: Uprising, which made the game far easier for left-handed players.

Wait why? I understand it's Nintendo and it will probably sell in Japan but it just seems so unnecessary. Looking at the picture some more, seems like it's going to be more awkward than helpful.

GG. I don't see why they don't just build in a second analog stick. Now the new 3DS is gonna be huge with that thing on it.

Go figure. It's all lies all the time!

I WANT MORE GIANT PERIPHERALS!

#7 Posted by psylah (2175 posts) -

Gonna need a shoulder strap to carry that thing around.

#8 Posted by c_rakestraw (853 posts) -

Nintendo, please -- if you're gonna go through the trouble of releasing this add-on, just add the damn thing to the system already.

NO! I hope they keep adding ridiculous things to it. Extra shoulder button + trackball expansion to add to the circle pad pro expansion.

YES

#12 Posted by formic12 (14 posts) -

Won't this effectively make the 3DS XL as large as the Wii U gamepad? I can't imagine carrying that around with me for portable gaming....

#13 Posted by Springfart (320 posts) -

jeez

#14 Posted by FoxMulder (1690 posts) -

It'll be like carrying around one of those early portable DVD players!

#15 Posted by Hailinel (24712 posts) -

Cool. As a left-handed standard CPP owner, Kid Icarus is wonderful to play using it. Fuck all of the haters.

I'm excited. I skipped out on it with my regular ass 3DS, but wanted one for Kingdom Hearts, but I'll have a XL before then. Now we call all live happily ever after.

You people are all too negative about everything.

#17 Posted by Nadafinga (958 posts) -

Oh Nintendo. You so crazy.

I actually think it's MORE ridiculous now, Patrick.

Stupid.

#21 Posted by TepidShark (1059 posts) -

Kingdom Hearts 3D will probably make good use of it (Right Stick Camera is way better then camera on the triggers) but I would probably say if you are getting Kingdom Hearts you should probably get the Circle Pad Pro, but not the other way around.

#22 Posted by SlightConfuse (3963 posts) -

This is like a brick cell phone the opposite of portable

#23 Posted by Hogshead (22 posts) -

So will this make the 3DS XL about the size of an Atari Lynx?

#24 Posted by deject (42 posts) -

Oh Nintendo, you cray cray.

I'd be down for a trackball...

Okay, they win -- keep at it, Nintendo!

What the fuck is wrong with this company? Looks they're sticking to their guns till the ship sinks. Hopefully it sinks sooner then later, also anyone who purchases this device really needs to reflect upon his actions.

#27 Posted by devilzrule27 (1239 posts) -

if they're going to make that thing why didn't they just put the second circlepad on the device? So dumb.

#28 Posted by bko (131 posts) -

Oh, Nintendo.

No thanks. I'll wait for the 17-inch 3DS. Which of course will have its own 5 lb. circle pad pro attachment.

#29 Posted by biggiedubs (493 posts) -

You've got to fucking kidding me. A couple of days ago I was all like, 'thanks Nintendo for not putting a second analogue stick on the 3DS XL, now I don't have to buy it! Maybe you're not so dumb in thinking that it needs a second stick after all!'

Now I'm all like : what.

They should totally bring back the GameBoy Printer, come on Nintendo.

#32 Posted by Vegetable_Side_Dish (1727 posts) -

I'm still jealous of the Japanese selection of 3DS games, but at least I don't have to buy both a circle pad pro and an ac adaptor with this new 3ds.

#33 Posted by Pr1mus (3904 posts) -

No thanks, i've got a big enough laptop already.

#34 Posted by the_r0n1n_named_47 (158 posts) -

still think they should have built this in to the 3dsxl.... but hey now i have a reason to get it other than the bigger screen.... until now the only reason i didnt want to get it was the lack of circle pad

GOD, YES! Turn the 3DS into an unnecessarily bulky and large Polaroid camera!

#36 Posted by glyn (382 posts) -

Whoever came up with this idea is a f-----ing joke

Are you kidding me? Oi, why you gotta be like that Nintendo?

God dang it, Nintendo.

I don't really think anyone is "hating" on it so much as being confused as to why Nintendo just didn't add a second stick to the revision. Now you have to go out and buy a secondary accessory that will make your 3DSXL even BIGGER. The fact that they're making a new CPP for the revision obviously indicates that they think a second stick is necessary.

Well I'll just connect this game cart to the game genie, which sits next to the worm light and then over the magnifying glass and speaker rig I have attached to my game boy as well.

Suddenly 1lb device is like 10lbs.

Hey, angry kids! This shit is going to get the same amount of support as the current circle pad, which is fucking zero, so stop whining and don't buy the damn thing.

The only game that pretty much requires is Snake Eater, but everything else is not, past and future both.

#44 Posted by BenderUnit22 (1493 posts) -

If there's one thing Nintendo is good at it's releasing half-assed hardware add-ons that are barely supported. Congrats

#45 Posted by Shuborno (938 posts) -

I can't believe they couldn't find the room for a second analog stick on a device that has XL in the name.

#46 Posted by AjayRaz (12427 posts) -

has any rational person revised any of these ideas? or maybe i'm just not rational

#47 Edited by Protonguy (305 posts) -

Omg Nintendo, so portable! It's only 15 BILLION pounds heavier than my portable computer...

#48 Posted by mrpandaman (866 posts) -

So like I asked on the 3DS XL + other Nintendo stuff reveal article... Why didn't they just put the second stick on the XL?

Why continue to spend money on creating this peripheral and probably lose money on it? Because I don't think many people will buy it unless they start making a lot of games that implement this. They could've bit the bullet and said they got it wrong the first time for the 3DS design and just put it on the XL. It doesn't make sense that they wouldn't just do this. All it does is add the ability to put a wider variety of games on a handheld. Maybe some of you don't want that, but on a handheld that just last year was considered a failure (by Nintendo themselves), being able to reach a wider market is better. The 3DS games that people like won't stop being made.

Also I'm not hating or anything on Nintendo, this just puzzles me a lot.

Exactly. If they are still pursuing this, then I'm willing to now bet that the next revision will have the second stick on it. Perhaps this design, in their mind was too far along to put the second stick on, as crazy as that is.

Eh, I don't know. Throwing a second stick right on the system seems like it would alienate too many first generation 3DS owners. I just don't think they'd split up their consumer base like that.

I would buy a Nintendo handheld that had the Circle Pad Pro functionality built in.
