The cockatrice was a bitch in NetHack. You see, if you had it equipped and tripped down the stairs there was a good chance you'll end up touching said cockatrice (thus turning you to stone) before hitting the ground and shattering you into a million pieces. That said, it's the best use of a cockatrice in any game thus far.

Actually, now that I think about it the original version of this joke involved either Mammoths or Parrots, but I guess that it doesn't quite work in English so most people here probably haven't heard it before.

@Spoonman671: It is definitely a cool monster, I won't lie. I just prefer The Painkiller because of how... metal he is.
