Command & Conquer 4 On The Way?

When asked about his excitement level over the potential announcement of a new Command & Conquer game, The Nature Boy was quoted as saying "WOOOOOOOOOOOO" and "Brother, you made this caption way too long, what the hell is wrong with you?"

Joystiq caught a (now private) Twitter message from an account belonging to EA's UK public relations team that says it all: "EA LOS ANGELES ANNOUNCES THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMAND & CONQUER 4." The catch is that the link posted with the message doesn't actually point to a page that has that press release on it and EA isn't talking about it. So is there going to be a Command & Conquer 4 announcement soon? Yeah, probably.

The other part of the puzzle is that GameSpot started running a Command & Conquer retrospective yesterday. Those multi-day retrospective features they do around a series or franchise seem to always lead into the announcement of a new game in the series. So my guess is that they'll end up with some sort of exclusive announcement or details on C&C4 in the relatively near future.

You might also remember that an online survey went around recently talking about "MMORPG like player progression" and other persistent features for the next Command & Conquer game. So EA certainly seems to have C&C on the brain at the moment, even if all that MMO-type stuff sounds sort of crazy. I don't know, even if it's taking an entirely different direction, C&C3 is still only a couple of years old. When that game was announced, I was all excited about the return of Kane and the return of the C&C franchise. But considering we've seen C&C3, C&C Red Alert 3, and an expansion for each over the last couple of years, it feels like it's a little soon to be announcing yet another game.

Very Interesting, I really love the Live action cut scenes hopefully they continue that.

mmorpg aspects in a c&c game :O would be interesting if they added that to a strategy game, but iit feels like it wouldn't work >< hmm..and lol at the video XD

Well it was inevitable that they would add another game to the franchise. I think it sells quite well so they'd obviously want to continue making it.

no more C&C anymore or Red Alert
just retire the franchises, they've had their run
loved the old games, new ones not doing it
also I think Company of Heroes may have ruined all other combat focused RTSs for me because of it's greatness

I care.

Hopefully they'll build a new engine for it from scratch already instead of upgrading the old one that they've used since Generals. You can update and add nice water effects in it but it still looks old. And hopefully they will let you zoom out of the battlefield a bit more. It doesn't have to be zoom out to space like in supcom, just let me take advantage of my widescreen and let me zoom out more. I'm not asking for much.

Damn, I haven't even had time play RA3 yet so I agree that It does feel a bit early.

Still good news though, C&C 3 was a great game.

Kane's Wrath was a dissapointment and haven't even played RA3 yet. C&C just doesn't have the same appeal anymore.

Red alert sucks compared to the original C&C. Command & Conquer 4 will be awesome

OH. Great. Another one.

Because we need CnC4. The aliens were not enough apparently... they need to go and screw everything up further.

Though for a different play style and tactics, I'd prefer generals 2. With cool ocean combat, and upgraded terrorists... if they had to make another one...

Kane's Wrath and RA3 sucked, i you have RA3 and you want it to be like RA2 then there is a guy modding it to be like RA2.

Did not expect the range of anger in these comments, considering the recent games are meta'd in the 70s and 80s. Guess I'm late to the C&C-jumped-the-shark party. I'm still looking for a boxed copy of Tiberium Wars special edition if anyone would care to hurl it at me. ;-)

The problem with C&C 3 was that it half-heartedly tried to take itself seriously and came across feeling like a deflated effort.

Red Alert 3, on the other hand, knows its job is to be pure fun in every way possible and it does a spectacular job of achieving that.

After the relative low that was C&C 3, RA 3 is Command and Conquer back in top form.

Although RA3 was fairly average I did like Tiberian Wars, would love more from Kane. Tiberian Sun is still one of my all time favs.

Not interested in another Generals.

Even though I've been a loyal fan of C&C from the beginning, this is just too much. Wait a little while so the announcement gets the "AWWWW SHIET! :D" reaction is deserves.
