Turn back the clock yet again in EALA's third installment of the popular alternate-historical RTS, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
Overview
EA's alternate-history real-time strategy series, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, has been dormant since the release of Yuri's Revenge in 2001. In early 2008, Red Alert 3 was formally announced for a "Red October" release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Since that time, the PlayStation 3 version had been officially placed "on hold." After their defeat by the Allies and the death of Yuri, the Soviets are desperate to reclaim their power. Their plan is to use any available information on Einstein's time machine, the Chronosphere, to build their own. With it, they plan to go back in time and kill Einstein, making them the winners of the "new" World War II. But this proves to be short-sighted, as accomplishing this merely creates a new superpower, the Empire of the Rising Sun. And the war begins anew. The colorful, campy feel of the Red Alert series will return in this game, ranging from full-motion video mission briefings and story sequences, as well as outlandish units, such as parachuting attack bears, a transport unit that launches troops into battle with a cannon, Tesla boats, and Japan-like Empire of the Rising Sun units' ability to transform. Naval battles will be of a higher importance in Red Alert 3 thanks to mobile construction vehicles that can be deployed over water to form sea bases. New to Command & Conquer is the option for cooperative campaign play. Players can play online with their friend, or choose to play alone, in which case an AI controlled Commander helps out. When playing alone, you can give some generic orders to your co-commander, such as attack specific target.Premier's Edition and Playstation 3 Ultimate Edition
The game will have a Premier's edition released alongside the original game, which will come in a tin box, along with five exclusive MP/skirmish maps, a making of DVD feature, a feature entitled "Women of Red Alert 3", a soundtrack, and a beta key for a future Command and Conquer game.Interestingly, The collector's Red Alert 3 comes included with an in-game item for a completely separate game; Warhammer Online. EA recently announced that its Playstation 3 edition of Command & Conquer : Red Alert 3 will contain bonus content due to PLAYSTATION 3’s Blu-ray disc capacity. Expansion Packs
Red Alert 3's first expansion pack: Command & Conquer : Red Alert 3 : Uprising was released on March 13th, 2009 . This expansion has broken the convention that it has no multiplayer. And, more amazingly, it will only be available through digital transfer, but it's not yet available on Steam. Though it has new units, 4 new campagins with a bunch of missions each faction, as well as 30 new maps. And a new feature called Commander's Challenge. For more information, please see Red Alert 3: Uprising.
EA had been "announcing" that they would be releasing two expansion packs for Command & Conquer : Red Alert 3. Though " confirmations" haven't been "leaked", but it is still possible that EA might do a "pearl harbour attack" that it will release an MMORTS for us.
Many fans of the Command and Conquer franchise had posted serveral "looking-the-glass-half- empty" threads on the official forums. These pesimistics think that the franchise has been "down-to-the-ground" since this game , like Medal of Honor: Airboure. But there's still the light at the end of the tunnel.
Soundtrack
C&C veteran composer, Frank Klepacki, returned for Red Alert 3 to compose 3 songs, Hell March 3, Grinder 2 and The Red Menace aka Nuclear Death aka Soviet Up Yours theme. British composer James Hannigan composed the music of the "Empire of the Rising Sun" faction and the game's Soviet March theme. Timothy Michael Wynn composed music for the Allied faction and some tracks for the Soviet faction.
Beta Test
The beta ran from late July 2008 to September 29, 2008. Original end date was set to September 26, 2008, but EA extended the beta over the weekend. The beta was open for everyone who had registered their beta key acquired from either the Command & Conquer 3 Limited Collection or the Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath expansion pack by September 15, 2008. The multiplayer beta comprised of four maps, of which 2 were for 1 on 1 matches, and 2 for 4 player matches. The Units
