C&C of Today (is free)
Command & Conquer, is one of the greatest, and pioneers in the RTS genre, has it aged well?
the answer is, I don´t know judge for yourself, but let´s begin with why is dated:
- the graphics, if you are very touchy with graphics stay away.
- May be, the sound department, I´m adding this one cause is a hit or miss, for some of you it may sound nostalgic, and awesome (the death screams, the explosions, and EVA´s voice) but it get tedious over the time, you soon realize, why the scream that hard when there´s another voice that tell you, unit lost. (side note, some sounds are just classic like the Ion Cannon, The sound of the Build Yard or "I gotta present for ya", and yes I love it)
- The interface, is smooth, and responsive, it was ground breaking for 1995, but when you play it now days, there´s a 3 big problems: You can Que units (so pay attention when that unit is ready if you want to mass produce), no hot key or key map navigation, and STUPID PATH FINDING (you will struggle a lot with harvesters believe me)
well you may ask, why I rated so high:
- IS FREE!
- The Cut scenes still worth watching
- Is Action pack
- The music (Frank Kleparcky, will always be my favorite video game musician)
- MULTIPLAYER
WHAT!? Multiplayer, on an old westwood game? yes and up to 6 players can play online using "http://www.cnc-comm.com/ " that.
is very fun online, you deal with lag if you are from the other side of the world, and is on some sort of beta, and the community is very very small (like 10 people), but hey, beleve me is really fun, you still got to develop strategies for your own, cause I don´t find any online, and thats the magic of it, it feels new, when is an really old game.
if you just want the full game you can search it on google, if you download it from the cncnet page, you will have an updated version with no cut scenes, but with Higher RES, remixed music, and it fixes some stuff, if you still don´t beleve me here is my proof
