Sequel to one of the best RTS games of all time, details announced, entire website dedicated to the game, and only one forum post? I thought this games announcement would insight alot more excitement than it has.

Maybe because the whole world just found out about it like yesterday? Calm down.

Also, you're argument holds no weight, when a new big name game gets announced people usually jump all over it; look at Dishonored for example.

Thanks for helping them hype it up, or else I'll never even know this game exists. Not a huge fan but RTS games are seriously lacking nowadays so good new.

I want to like Company of Heroes, i've played a bit of it, but I don't think it plays nearly as well as Men of War. Infantry groups and tanks with a shared healthbar? That's lame.

The difference with Dishonored is that we've known about it for like a year or so and only in the last few weeks has there been this huge media blitz and everyone talking about it.

Company of Heroes 2 leaked less than a week ago from a magazine cover.

There was almost no hype for Dishonored when it was announced, except by a few gaming sites saying "Trust us, I know you haven't seen the game, but it looks pretty cool." There is slightly more hype for Dishonored now that it has a trailer, but there still hasn't even been a gameplay trailer to the best of my knowledge, so hype is pretty low.

Also, there probably isn't going to be a lot of hype for Company of Heroes 2, because despite the first being a pretty cool game, it didn't set the world on fire with its sales, and people are hardly even aware of the brand. Hell, hardly any RTS series have any hype potential aside from Blizzard games and Total War, because there just aren't that many people playing the genre these days, and a lot of the old classics in the genre (Command & Conquer, Age of Empires) are effectively dead.

I'm choosing to define hype as "a large amount of consumers salivating for an unreleased product".

I'm definitely interested in a Company of Heroes 2. I've played every game that Relic has made, except for the Outfit (Yes, I even played Impossible Creatures), so of course I'm interested. I just don't know much about it yet. There is one screenshot on the site you mention. Way too early to get hyped up. Now if it were a Homeworld announcement, you wouldn't be able to shut me up about it.

Because so far it just looks like another CoH expansion pack, and the last two expansion packs weren't very exciting.  Making CoH again but set on the Eastern Front is about the least exciting thing they could have done with the franchise.

Maybe it isn't just the same game again and there's more to it, but I'm withholding excitement until they point out what exactly that might be.

edit: also because fuck them for not making Homeworld 3 instead.

I'm totally excited but I can't find much about it on the interwebs. A lot of stories repeat the same thing and Jeff only touched on it little bit from the closed envelope podcast. They need to release a fucking trailer and get some buzz going. Their announcement isn't doing shit.

Here's an interview with Relic's creative manager about the upcoming game. They are absolutely working on making it as good as the first one and even better. Gets me even more pumped.

I wonder if they would release some kind of beta...

There's just never going to be much hype for this game. RTSs that aren't called Starcraft nowadays just don't sell enough to generate the kind of hype you're talking about.

Strategy games aren't as big as you'd think.

Also it is a good game but i don't think too much of it. I actually kind of resent it as they tried to make warhammer dawn of war 2 into a company of heroes spin off.

I am not excited because I think Men Of War is a better series than COH.

@CheapPoison: They didn't really, though. The games have similar mechnics, but they play very different. And both series are quite competent.

Dawn of War (1) was a lot more similar to Company of Heroes than Dawn of War 2 was.

Well it certainly is not a bad game.

And i am pretty sure there were some things that they took from company of heroes that i didn't care for. And they are different enough, then again i need to play then against eachother again. but i always felt that comming from company of heroes influenced some decisions they made in dawn of war.

But ye what dissapointed me the most isn't entirely from company of heroes.

@CheapPoison: They were trying to recreate the feel of the tabletop. It just happened that a few of the mechanics were similar to Company of heroes. If you read any of the fiction or play the table top there isn't base building, no one builds Chapter Monasteries or Web Way gates during battle.

isn't this a pc only pretty niche game.

I'm pretty sure you know why it's not getting more hype.

@Seedofpower: Guess it makes sense. I don't think highly of the tabletop game aswell.

Still the fallback mechanic is the worst. Don't know how that makes sense connecting it to the tabletop.

    But company of heroes!

Yeah, its a rule on the tabletop, at least in the 5th edition. 6th edition is changing things but I don't know about that.

Is it in 40k? I haven't been keeping up with that. I know it is a pretty big factor in the warhammer fantasy.

mhhh guess it makes sense then.
