Company of Heroes 2 exists... Woo!

PC Gamer UK as apparently leaked confirming Company of Heroes 2 does exist. It's been rumoured for a while and IGN had some details
http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/122/1224255p1.html

Woo! Anything Relic RTS related is a win in my book but a new CoH game is an extra plus. Can't wait to see/hear/read more. : D

Awesome, love company of heroes! Hopefully they keep it as a traditional RTS rather than Dawn of War's new style.

I've always wondered when they would introduce the eastern front/soviet. There's this community mod that does quite a good job implementing a soviet faction, but I'm really excited for this release!

Yes please!

I was hoping against all odds for a Space Marine 2.

#5 Posted by Flaime (525 posts) -

@TentPole: Sounds like the "canceled" Warhammer MMO has become Space Marine 2.

man THQ seems to have a solid line up, how are they in the red again

#7 Posted by eroticfishcake (7782 posts) -

Not surprising but it's still great either way considering how CoH was one of my favourite RTSs in a long while.

Still want a sequel to Homeworld though.

This is fantastic news. Countless hours went into the 1st one and the expansion

Also I agree with this

CoH was pretty great and more of it sounds awesome.

Great news, Company of Heroes is a game more people should've played.

Personally I'd like it the other way around.

The paragraph where they talk about the Eastern Front as a 'fresh' setting makes me want to karate chop the writer in the larynx.  They should have just stopped the interview right there and refused to continue until Relic stopped giving shit answers.

*prays that THQ survives long enough to see this game into existence*

#15 Posted by demonbear (1859 posts) -

HELL yes!! I cannot wait for this, its gonna be awesome!!!

I agree. Not a huge fan of the DOW2 style. I loved the original Company of Heroes.

The duders always play it while on our voice server, but I just can't get in the right head to invest in it and get acquainted with all the gameplay systems. So, sadly, I have no interest in a sequel.

#18 Posted by raiz265 (2234 posts) -

FUCK YES!

Let's hope it's a little less random this time around and they don't fuck up the balance with stupid add-ons. :(

It's the Eastern Front mod.....BUT I'M EXCITED!

For mother Russia comrads, do not turn your back on her.

"In a world where sequels strive to justify their existence by twisting and warping original concepts, there's something bold about saying upfront that you intend to repeat yourself"

- 2013 release
- Main campaign is Eastern front, playing as Russians
- Lots of snow. Snow slows down troops and tanks, but can also form cover.
- Units can vault over cover such as low walls.
- Quinn Duffy is the lead designer (worked on Homeworld, Company of Heroes (Senior Designer),Company of Heroes: OF (Gameplay Supervisor), Space Marines (Lead Designer)

- Set in the beginning of 1941, the players role will take him from the defense of stalingrad to the victory at berlin.
- Graphics look amazing the soldiers look just as good as they do in other ww2 firstperson shooters.
- Realistic snow, tank treads make realistic marks, also tanks can get bogged down in snow drifts.
- Snow melts Eg: a soldier with a flamethrower burns a farmhouse the snow on the roof melts and makes the roof fallin.
- You can vault over fences.
- New Feature called "True Sight" You can only see what your units see.
- More advanced covering system...thats all it says about that

"This time, he makes his own cover by dropping a smoke grenade. As he does so, a fog of war effect greys out the area on the other side. Relic calls this 'True Sight' and it's another of COH2's new additions. You can only see what your soldiers can see. This means that you never know might be on the other side of the next building, beyond the tree line, or even beyond the smoke of your own smoke grenades."

There's still a lot about Company of Heroes 2 that Relic aren't ready to show. They haven't decided which missions will be in the final game, because they haven't built them yet. They don't know exactly how Order 227 will impact your troops outside of cutscenes. The game's economy will be tied to territorial control, as per the first game, but they're not yet ready to talk about it in full. If they've decided how multiplayer will work, they're not telling.

"But their ambition not to change, but to outstrip the superlative original Company of Heroes, near guarantees the same thing the Soviet top brass enforced back in the early '40s: not one step back."

@SlightConfuse: i think they lost millions of dollars ( i want to say 100 mill but not sure) on that tablet drawing game for 360/ps3,other than that they actually had a decent year last year

I agree but I like most of Relics games so it's not a big deal.

One thing though, I was just thinking about the DLC for Dawn Of War II and how fucking greedily terrible it was. I wonder how much shit will be cut out of this game and shoved in 50 diffrent £1.99 packs.

#28 Posted by PeasantAbuse (5138 posts) -

Cool, I just started playing the first one a few days ago.

#29 Posted by whyareyoucrouchingspock (975 posts) -

I hope they make the animations better. With DOWII and COH when they run around it is like they are floating off the ground and sliding. Total War has always been much better in that regard. Units move like they are attached to the surface.

#30 Posted by AnxiousTube (180 posts) -

This is great. I remember the first COH from when I was younger. Such a good game. Gosh, this is really exciting and the game looks and sounds great from the pictures and what the article stated.

#31 Posted by Butano (1728 posts) -
YES!!!!!!!!!!!
#32 Posted by Seedofpower (3925 posts) -

Never played the originals but I heard they were good and I loved the Dawn of war series. This is gonna be a Day 1 buy!

I'm fucking pumped!

Yeah, it's more the engines fault. A lot of people complained about stuff like that on the DOW2 forums and how melee was all around broken. Also that game was running on a updated version of CoH, but since its been 3 years it could be safe to assume that they have made some improvements to it or scraped it and made a new engine all together.

#34 Posted by deathstriker666 (1337 posts) -

Fucking hate that Dawn of War/Warhammer shit. Still pisses me off how they could just throw together a skeleton team to make all the shitty expansion packs and had the main team move on to those games. Don't even get me started on CoHO. I hope this new sequel will finally do justice to the original CoH.

#35 Posted by Seedofpower (3925 posts) -

Can you move this thread to this page?

Because despite their solid line-up, people don't buy the games...for some reason...that I just CANNOT understand.

Also, my boss is going to be stupid stoked about this news.

#37 Posted by SlightConfuse (3963 posts) -

@jakob187: which is a shame beacuse THQ published some of my favorite games last year. looking foward to metro last light this year

Personally I think the single player of Company Of Heroes would benifit from being more in the style of DOWII. Or rather "men of war". The base building aspect doesn't really require much thinking, it just eats up time and makes the game feel less realistic. It's better suited for MP.

COH1 is great, but COH2 doesn't seemed to have been improved much besides new units, etc.

So what you're saying is that it's even better, even if by a little margin.
