So I just bought CS:S from the steam sale and I was wondering if any veterans of this game had some quick pointers so I don't have a ton of people screamin' at me because I don't know how the play the game.

I used to play CS aaaaages ago, i barely remember what the game is about. 
 
I hope you get the help and tips you need to evolve! practice makes perfect btw

• Shoot in burst
• Crouch when you can
• Don't leave anywhere without your team
• Be patient
• Only spray when someone is point blank
• Learn to crouch jump
• Learn to buy weapons immediately

Here's a tip s3ank1m forgot- If you're going to flashbang do your damn best to not throw it at your team members. I don't know if it still effects your team mates but it used to and is the worst kind of griefing.

Ditch Counter strike (It is dying anyway and everyone who plays the game seriously are dicks) and play Team fortress 2 instead.

As someone who has played CS seriously since the very first betas, I have one piece of advice: prepare to deal with the biggest group of cunts you have ever encountered online.

I would advise you to not underestimate the power of the pump shotgun.

And im a pc.

The cheapest SMG for CT sounds like a laser gun.

@DAFTPUNK: Well I do have one question. Why is that when I'm hiding around a corner people somehow know I'm there and get the jump on me before I can even pull the trigger? Is it it just because they know the map very well or are just cheating somehow?

Indeed. That is probably the biggest truth about CSS.

Beware of porn sprays. I have seen some of the dirtiest porn pictures on counter strike thanks to the wonderful spray system.

I've played about 100 hours of CSS, I'm only good at it when I'm drunk, tip I can give you: stay away from German servers they're like the koreans of CS :D.

even going from TF2 back to CSS is too jarring for me, its so goddamn slow.

Play with bots on easy and praticing aiming and shooting for headshots. Doesnt matter if they kill you, just aim for the headshots 
  
watch how others play to understand the maps and how to shoot. 
 
Dont be like my friends and have the crosshairs on the ground. you need to be looking higher!
