Counter-Strike is a popular team-based first-person shooter that pits terrorists against counter-terrorists.

Valve games are made for PC. Because you know, they kinda control that platform.
I can't imagine anything new beating the original CS in terms of raw feel, just like a new quake wouldn't beat Quake 3 in that respect. I can only see them putting a lot into the surrounding stuff like they have done with TF2, which holds pretty much no interest for someone like me. CS will always be special to me just because I have so many memories attached to it but I don't think I have the lifestyle or the time to get into a new one.. I hope the new generation of 13-18 year olds can enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the original during this period of my life. 'e-Sports' will become a legitimate 'thing' one day and Counter-Strike should always be remembered as the grand daddy. He's still got some fight in him yet.
Damn, you guys need to chill. It's fucking Valve, when have they ever shown the slightest interest in catering to the console crowd?
The console versions will be acceptable ports of an excellent PC game. No ironsights or killstreaks, no insta-knife, limited DLC support for the consoles (if there's even going to be any at all). Basically, think Left 4 Dead.
@zaglis said:CS is a game designed for a mouse and keyboard, unlike CoD. CS as it is wouldn't be good on consoles, no one wants them to make compromises in order to make it good on consoles.@Metal_Mills said:Yeah, the clever dialog, masterful voice-work, brilliant level designs, expertly-paced plotting, and ominous aesthetics were really lost in porting the game from consoles.HL2 was made for PC, only later ported to Xbox. Lose the dickheads that populate CS & I'm in. Wait, shit. There'd be no-one to play against. Meh, then.

Read http://eseanews.com/index.php?s=news&d=comments&id=9969, which is a report from one the pro CS players who was invited a few weeks ago to Valve to playtest.
CS 1.6 was a Half-Life 1 mod
CS: Source was designed for the engine built for Half-Life 2
CS: GO will run on ?
I THINK I'M ON TO SOMETHING GUYS
You know they actually made another game, a little known game called Left 4 Dead.@Bam_D_Leprechaun said:
Really hope it's not like that crappy console crossover they made years ago. But a new CS will def bring back to playing itOh that was terrible. I don't know who was responsible for that, but I hope they aren't allowed near games again.

To anyone that missed this, READ IT. Hands on with Pre-Beta Playtest feedback. Also, Valve isn't selling out. You guys are ridiculous. Counter-Stiker: Condition Zero came out on consoles. Orange Box came out on current gen consoles. So did L4D and Portal franchises. Get a grip on reality.
Their specialty is PC gaming, but they're showing the console Devs how it's done when making games multi-platform. If you're gonna port to PC, don't just shit out a port and call it done. Tweak it so it works right and feels native to the platform.

Whoa! Ok then. Just thought I'd point out the fact that, yet again, in a PC oriented news article/thread, the number of people expecting some sort of nerd rage far outweighs the number of actual raging crazies (I count about 3 genuinely idiotic rage comments, and about 10 comments flaming a non-existent, assumed majority of angry fanboys, despite the overwhelming majority of comments from console and PC gamers being positive.I r smart jounralist and i make silly hedline and remark to stir some siht becauzz i am bitter manchild yayyyyy
Anyway. This sounds cool. I never really liked CS, probably because I came a little late to the party, but I'm interested to see how this turns out.
Patrick you do know that Counter Strike has been on consoles before right? I guess you can't be bothered to research before you write an article.
Here let me link you the Giant Bomb pages:

Pretty much all of Valve's releases have been on consoles but good job trying to stir up PC-Console shit and getting the name of the game wrong.
On an unrelated note, why was Brad Nicholson fired again?
ARRRRRRRGH BLIZZARD THIS GAME IS TOO COLORFUL WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUCK
Par for the course for PC gamers. Bitching about nothing, mad that their precious IP is going multiplatform so they have one less thing to feel superior about... Yup, nothing new here.
And before anyone says anything, I do most of my gaming on my PC. I'm just not an asshole about it.
Fina-fucking-ly.
I can't wait to see what they do to CS. It's been sitting there more or less unchanged since 1.6, I have to imagine they have some crazy ideas that they have been dying to try out.
ah yes, the children of the internet will have something new to jerk off to. like if cod ain't enough...

(yes, consoles--cue the angry PC crowd!).
Really Patrick?
I thought you were above that. You led the Deus Ex QL.
You really think PC gamers would care that CS is reaching consoles too, especially considering how long it's been exclusive, how the rest of the key VALVe Source Engine catalogue is on consoles and the fact that gaming in FPS is always quicker on mouse and keyboard?
I game exclusively on PC, used to be a serious CS player and I don't care a whit.
Interesting. I'd like to see if a shooter like CS, which is still wildly popular, can do something different and still compete in this post MW world.

@SeriouslyNow: Also he he did not know that CS and CS Condition zero were both released on consoles before.
Yeah I know. I felt it better to address the comment itself rather than the history which precedes it.
