Games that feature stages in which the player is forced to continually progress, chased by a relentless and lethal threat that covers the entire height/width of the screen.
Falling blocks appear in many games.
Falling Debris, rocks, or other items that may possibly cause damage to the player character.
Flattening is taking something three dimensional, and somehow making it very thin almost two dimensional. It can be used for comedic effect or a character to use it to fight through tight spaces.

Through trial and error gameplay, complex game mechanics and intense difficulty, masocore games are specifically designed to frustrate players over and over again.
The Thwomp is a villain from the mario franchise. He is most commonly found in castle stages.
Deathtraps that alternate between being active and inactive. Usually unavoidable in active state.
A mechanical system designed to capture or cause harm. Either the player can set traps for their enemies or others set them for the player.
