Crysis 3 Seems to Exist, Will Probably Be Announced Soon

As with all blockbuster franchises that people generally like (or are at least indifferent toward), the question surrounding the unveiling of next entry in Crytek's rather popular Crysis series wasn't so much one of "if" as "when." The answer? Right now! Sort of.

The odds of that price sticking are...poor, at best. But that bow is pretty bitchin', right?

Though it hasn't been officially announced just yet, Crysis 2 publisher EA inadvertently let the nanotechnology-enhanced cat out of the alien infested bag a tad early last night, putting up a page for the game on the company's Origin system before quickly pulling it down. Not quick enough, however, as the Internet, ever-watching as it is, managed to snag the relevant screenshots before EA went into "pretend this doesn't exist" mode.

The listing has only been verified via screenshot (and the $49.99 price point for all versions listed suggests this was either an inaccurate test page or just a flat-out lie), but the likelihood of the game's existence stems from other evidence as well. CVG teased a major new project from Crytek just a month ago, and Swedish video game magazine Game Reactor has been teasing a cover for its forthcoming issue that would seem to point toward a new Crysis franchise entry.

All of this should, of course, be taken with a grain of salt until EA sends out an official press release of some kind, or at least until someone can verify that Game Reactor cover story. That said, the idea of a Crysis 3 existing isn't exactly hard to believe. Now, if you'd said that Crytek was finally going to be unveiling TimeSplitters 4, then I might have a little trouble believing you. But this? It's practically a foregone conclusion. (Sorry, TimeSplitters fans.)

kewl, good to know.

Expected from Crytek. I'll wait for more information before moaning about it.

As a TimeSplitters fan, this bothers me.

Hope they do well by the PC version this time.

Well...Crysis 2 was good, but thoroughly underwhelming as a sequel. And here I was thinking the first half of Crysis 1 was the future of shooter design.

At this point, I can't be bothered. I'll wait for Timesplitters 4.

A crossbow? I love the Crysis series, but damn if it's too bad what they did with the console versions of Crysis 2. Bugs everywhere, and one thing that hindered all platforms was somewhat bad voice acting. Also, put the prone feature back in. I think since I like Crysis so much, the lack of Timesplitters talk is OK. I still wish they made a fourth one though.

Still prefer the gameplay of Crysis over Crysis 2. Sneaking through jungles on the hardest difficulty really made crysis for me. Shooting down a tree and having guards run over to investigate only to have me sneak up behind them and kill them with a duck throw to the back of the head is really damn satisfying.

I spent well over 100 hours just messing around in the sandbox editor.

I won't be buying anything on Origin, I made an exception for Battlefield 3.

And looks like they're mixing 1 and 2 into this one:

*Shamelessly stolen from Neogaf*

Liked Crysis 2 but man was it a step down from Crysis 1. Please Crytek, get it right this time.

Considering how long Crysis 2's been out for, I'm expecting nothing more than Crysis 2.5. Loved Crysis 1, and really enjoyed Crysis 2 for what it was, but if they have another main theme as irritating as 2's I will microwave the fucking disk. The amount they used that main theme during 2's campaign made me want to murder innocent fuzzy creatures.

You hear that Crytek? Think of the fuzzy creatures, you bastards!

Man, I need to play Crysis 2 first...

#13 Posted by morrelloman (608 posts) -

Crysis 2 was a good, but a total renter.

Hey if you go on Ebay there are digital copies going for £5.. if your interested i saw them the other day, they apparently email you the code straight away.

Already?

#16 Posted by Chris2KLee (2336 posts) -

Meh, played the first one and that felt like a bit of a chore near the end. The tech is amazing, but the characters and story are just so dull.

#17 Posted by BeachThunder (11994 posts) -

Honestly, I'm not even sure what I would actually want from another Crysis game...

#18 Posted by MeatSim (10874 posts) -

I would rather have TimeSplitters 4. Come get me when you want to show that.

#19 Posted by therealminime (234 posts) -

Saw this on gaf earlier today, very excited, especially if the New York jungle-ized setting is true. I loved Crysis 2 a whole lot, although it is a completely different game from Crysis 1, I still enjoyed it. Can't wait to see 3.

#20 Posted by Rirse (266 posts) -

Eh, I will wait for either a Steam release or a five dollars on Amazon sale for Crysis 3....and also finishing the other two games.

Copying the details since you didn't:

- Will be situated in a destroyed New York, which has become almost a jungle.
- Promise the best sandbox fps on the market.
- There will be a limited and Hunter edition of Crysis 3.
- PC, Xbox 360, PS3.
- Out in the spring of 2013.
- April 15 announcement.

Not going to lie, this actually sounds kind of fucking awesome.

Timesplitters 4 is even a thing? Alright. I'm pumped now.

#24 Posted by Lazyaza (2189 posts) -

Oh boy I sure can't wait for another sequel that almost completely ignores what made the original great, mhm boy can't I. Then again eh maybe this time around Crytek won't fuck it up, bah pc elistist rage blah blah blah etc.

#25 Posted by Scottish_Sin (223 posts) -

I never played the original Crysis due to the fact that I never had a competent PC at the time but I always heard great things about it but I did play Crysis 2 on the 360 and thoroughly enjoyed it so I'm looking forward to the third.

Perhaps now that I have solid gaming PC, I'll give the first Crysis a go.

EA, Y U NO REDEEM YOURSELF AND HELP PUBLISH TIMESPLITTERS!

#27 Posted by xbob42 (518 posts) -

Unless they can bring back (and IMPROVE) the amazing AI of the first game in Delta, I don't care. The second game was a blemish and an insult.

#28 Posted by RetroVirus (1476 posts) -

Damn, that bow looks sweet!

Free Radical was working on it when they got bought and weren't able to find a publisher. Crytek said a year ago that they might have an interest in picking TimeSplitters 4 back up but wouldn't be able to even consider it until after Crysis 2 was out. But since those guys are now working on Homefront 2, I have a feeling it's never, ever going to come out. :'(

I disagree, and I would be fine with either direction or a new one.

Crysis 2 just felt like a COD clone and this probably will too.

I continue to wait for TimeSplitters 4 as do many. Publishers *sigh*

#32 Posted by LDawg (18 posts) -

@iAmJohn: Indeed. I rather see a new Time Splitters game than Crysis 3

#33 Posted by DragonsRrealLoL (17 posts) -

I guess it's been over a year, but the news for a third seems to be a little early. It may still be a good game, but they're never going to have the "Wow" impact the original did with these steady releases.

#34 Posted by ValiantGrizzly (498 posts) -

Sweet. I really liked Crysis 2.

Still haven't finished 1 or 2.

So the guy in the super advanced suit has reverted to bow n arrows? Just looks weird to me.

Then let me ask you, which part wasn't a step down?
Okay, the shooting felt slightly better in C2 but thats about it.

I fell for Crysis 2 and it was a great looking game I guess, but game play wise it wasn't worth my $60.

Not really looking forward to the next one.

Meh

It was a very different game. It wasn't as open as Crysis 1 but still a lot more open than most other first person shooters. I liked the art direction, music and enemy design more plus the AI for the aliens was decent. A more cohesive experience than the original. The VTOL level just didnt feel right. Much preferred the story too. Ultimately it's opinion and even though Crysis 1 is my favourite first person shooter of all time I still liked 2 even if it wasnt the same game.

#41 Posted by Goldanas (546 posts) -

About a year later, they finally updated Crysis 2 to be the game that almost looks as good as the first one. I don't have a lot of faith, especially becaue I don't like the gameplay in all these games (starting with the first Far Cry) enough to justify a purchase without MAXIMUM GRAFIX.

Additionally: OH FUCKING GOD I WANT TIMESPLITTERS 4; ALL THEY HAVE IS THAT OLD CONCEPT ART WITH THE BADASS NUN FUUUUUUCK I WANT TIMESPLITTERS 4.

#42 Edited by SomeDeliCook (2341 posts) -

Don't care about Crysis, where the fuck is my Timesplitters 4?

Or even a damn 'HD' remake of the first three

#43 Posted by SomeJerk (3263 posts) -

Make the MP Crysis 1 sci-fi battlefield supermen style without a dumbed the fuck down system and I'm in there day one.

#44 Posted by BlatantNinja23 (930 posts) -

So far this all looks great... Good thing I'll be buying a 680 soon

#45 Posted by Bloodgraiv3 (2712 posts) -

I really loved Crysis 2, it was one of my favorite games of last year. Can't wait to see this one.

#46 Posted by Zacagawea (1596 posts) -

I really couldn't care less about a new Crysis

#47 Posted by dezvous (548 posts) -

I loved Crysis 2 and could never wrap my head around the people who bitched about it not being as good as Crysis 1 on the PC. The game was more efficient, just because it didn't bring your PC to its knees doesn't mean it didn't look as good. Crysis 2 looks incredible on the PC! Very excited for a third.

#48 Posted by whyareyoucrouchingspock (975 posts) -

Why are the pc and xbox360 version the same price? The pc version should be cheaper. I guess EA are just a bunch of greedy cunts expecting pc gamers to be dumb and fall for the hype again?

I wont, fuck you EA. Crysis 2 was a colossal dissapointment and you are assholes to the max. Your origin prices are a fucking joke.

#49 Posted by Cybexx (1177 posts) -

I thought the digital pre-order for SimCity which is coming out in 2013 was crazy but pre-ordering before a game is announced is pushing the envelope.

#50 Posted by JeanLuc (3587 posts) -

I still need to play crysis 2
