When Crysis was released, if you didn't have a massive PC rig, you were simply out of luck.
When Crysis was released, if you didn't have a massive PC rig, you were simply out of luck.

Crytek's Crysis was once the game to show off your PC rig, years before the studio added consoles into its playbook. As a result, console owners never had a chance to see what all the fuss was about, relegated to watching YouTube videos.

That changes next week, with an updated version of the original Crysis coming on October 4 to both Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network next week for $20 (1600 Microsoft Points). This version includes tweaked lighting, support for 3D and other enhancements meant to keep the game looking current.

It'll be interesting to see how Crysis holds up. Maybe some PC owners can drop in some thoughts?

It did have MP and it was actually pretty cool for a while.

So is this a Games on Demand thing, or is 20 dollars the new 15?

Bets on if GB loads up the original Crysis for comparison to the new one? I think they're all afraid of that game.

It had one, but honestly I found it kinda crap. Though I hear the multiplayer expansion Crysis Wars is really good.

Ot: yup, 20's good for me. getting on PSN.

You mean it has reduced FOV, view distances and lower resolution textures to make the frame rate playable on the console.

$20? Alright, I'm in. I've always been interested in the original Crysis, not because of the graphics so much but because of the (later?) icy environments. I haven't followed this port at all but I kind of figured it'd be a full priced game, nice surprise.

    @cbk486

That's the absolute worst screencap that could've been taken from that trailer, I've seen the rest and it doesn't look nearly as bad as that. Hell, even Uncharted 3 could look like garbage if you took a screencap of the worst graphical detail you could find.

Whoa, it's hard to believe that that is the same spot in the game. o_O I have seen some footage on Gamespot lately and it looked really good. They showed the level where you try to get to the harbor, beginning at nightime and then the sun goes up etc. pp. That ran so good and looked so good that I was really looking forward to this.

I'm not being facetious or anything. It's a fact that there is very little ram to work with on the consoles. I'm sure the developers really had to think about what was going to be cut in order to keep the game running smoothly.

The trees in Crysis were kind of a big deal in the original game, but if the gameplay is perfectly intact, then it's all good.

That picture is likely honest because having played Crysis multiple times I can tell you the open areas with massive amounts of vegetation just cannot work on <500MB of RAM. It's just not possible. I expect they have trimmed down the detail in large areas considerably, either that or added tunnel connection.

In any case the most interesting part of this release for me will be seeing all the console gamers who bashed Crysis for just being a pretty face suddenly realize that it's actually a very good game that earned those 9.0 reviews.

Dude, the point he's trying to make is that the console version is going to look FAR worse than the PC version. I don't get why console owners get upset when someone points out that their 6 year old hardware is not up to the spec with the latest and greatest on the PC.

Oh I have absolutely no doubts that it will look far worse, I'm not frustrated with anything like that. What I get frustrated by is people taking the worst possible example they can and putting it out there like it's the standard for how the rest of something will be. Seems to me like people do it for the reaction, and to basically light a fire under peoples asses. Clearly it works, though.

Yeah I got what you were going for, no doubt concessions are going to be made to bring the game over, but in some areas they'll be much more noticeable, like the example you provided. Like I said I'm just curious about this game, I'm not a PC guy so it'll be nice to see how it is, though it's still a fairly straightforward FPS, and I'm kinda burnt out on that kind of game haha. Curiosity will win out in this case, though.

"Crytek's Crysis was once the game to show off your PC rig..."

    It's still up there.

I think $20 is a reasonable price. Graphics aside, the first half of the game is legitimately good, and different enough to most console shooters to make it still worth bothering with. Obviously it goes to shit once the 'I'm going to fly straight at you like I'm in Serious Sam' monsters turn up, just like Far Cry did.

It's kind of jarring to see a graphical comparison of the pc and 360 versions side by side.

Well, it would probably be more useful if you took screenshots of the same are- Oh. Wow.

Haha, I didn't even realise that. Nice.

In any case the most interesting part of this release for me will be seeing all the console gamers who bashed Crysis for just being a pretty face suddenly realize that it's actually a very good game that earned those 9.0 reviews.

Except the fact that PC gamer's are still talking about the graphics and not the gameplay. I wonder why that is?

@Rabid619: On it's own it looks fine maybe, but if that is really the same exact spot then it looks miles worse than the PC version. Not surprising, or really a big deal, but if you can play this game on a PC, do so. lol.

Lol id say graphically its superior to crysis 2 so itll be holding up quite well :) Gameplay might seem really clunky now thoughh, especially after crysis 2

I guess I am one of the few people who enjoyed the back end more than the first half. I got sick of killing the same five Koreans over and over again.
