Present in most action games, where people can say cheesy stuff and get away with it. Usually spoken by the hero, before or after wasting a dude.
An order of A.I. Knights created by Aura to fix all the bugs in the MMORPG, The World.
Baditude is being "edgy" in an obviously forced or fake manner. Games with baditude often feature excessive swearing, gratuitous violence, and content meant to shock or offend.
Bullet Bills are enemies in the Mario franchise. They are one of the games' more challenging enemies.
Hand-drawn or computer-generated animation.
Games that are little more than extensive cinematic sequences in which the player has little interaction with what is happening onscreen. This notion of a cinematic game is epitomized by laserdisc arcade classics such as Astron Belt, Dragon's Lair and Bega's Battle.
CQC and CQB are close range combat techniques.
When a game's scripted narrative is logically inconsistent with the gameplay. A character could've survived an infinite number of headshots during gameplay but is incapacitated by a single shot to the leg during a cutscene.
Cutscenes that do not take into account the specific gear that the player has equipped.
Some games just won't settle for laughs. Some games make you want to cringe as you're busting a gut.
A revived Protoss Zealot who can continue fighting through the means of a mechanical suit.
A situation where the player must quickly escape from a building currently in the process of blowing up. Could either be a cinematic or actually gameplay.
Menacing icy foes from the original Devil May Cry which returned in Devil May Cry 4. Infamous for often coming in pairs (at least!), their ability to recover their health while shielded and quick attacks including ice projectiles.
FMVs are pre-rendered videos used in place of real-time graphics. Using FMV was an attempt to make videogames look "more like movies", sometimes with CGI animation and others with live-action actors speaking directly to players. The downside is that FMV requires a lot of disk space, and live-action FMV in particular can look terrible by comparison.
A cutscene (usually using the in-game engine) which allows the user to contribute to or modify the action- such as changing camera angle, zooming in and out, or being able to move the player character around actors playing a scripted sequence.
Group of persona-users that are trying to solve the mysterious murders occurring in the rural town of Inaba. It can be classified as the equivalent of SEES in Persona 3.
When the title of the game does not appear immediately at the beginning of the game, but rather after the first mission or prologue.
The action of crossing a ledge, often this requires careful sidestepping.
Cutscenes involving real actors on a set or in front of a chroma key screen.
Machinima is the concept of making a movie out of a video game. Popularized by the series, Red vs Blue.
Make sure you respect nature, or else! Note: This only concerns *protagonists*.
A military alliance created for the mutual defense of its members during and after the cold war.
Nudity is qualified as either exposed buttocks, breasts, or genitalia or general lack of clothing. Video game nudity is largely a rarity outside of the PC market.
The successor of the Aurora Engine. Created by Bioware for Knights of the Old Republic.
Optional conversation-based cutscenes that are unrelated to the main narrative. These conversations are often humorous or provide insight into the game's setting.
Manifestations of a person's 'mask' that he or she shows the world. They can also be described as a representation of the control over a character's shadow personality. These entities appear as famous and legendary characters in the world of mythology. Tremendous power hidden within each one.
A cutscene that is viewed through the eyes of the protagonist or some other character. POV stands for "point of view".
Many games feature CG cutscenes that are usually created by an outsourced group. Generally, these types of cinematics look better than the actual game.
Common in old first person adventure games, the small pre-rendered movie that plays full screen to take the player from one static pre-rendered background to the next.
Pregnancy is the term for when a female of a species is carrying a new, developing member of the species within her body.
