Want to pay 300+ dollars on a XBLA game?

#1 Posted by AgentJ (8778 posts) -

Hori, makers of quality custom controllers, is considering selling twin sticks for the XBLA release of Virtual On. The catch? As of right now, it is expected to cost 30,000 yen, or over 300 dollars.

Its probably still cheaper than buying the arcade cabinet. Worth it to anyone?

Hell no. It's not even like it's some big Steel Battalion controller with 40 buttons.
Isn't a Virtual On setup just two flight sticks with triggers? The 360 controller already has 2 analog sticks and two triggers. I don't see the problem.

Not to me.  I would rather get a SF IV arcade stick then that.

Two sticks with triggers? If that's all you need, then why the hell would you need the damn expensive controller?

When I saw the tread topic I thought this would be about Lumines Live :)

I'm a huge fan of the series. I saw the double Dreamcast Joystick some years ago but passed on buying it.

Hori's Twin Stick EX will be on show at TGS

No, would never pay that much for any game.

The Hori Twin Stick EX has been dated for release in Japan:

November 29th at ¥30,000 (lol) - that's 20 times more than the cost of the game.  I still want one though

Yeah, that sounds about right. Looks like it'd be fun if it were a little less expensive.
Just want to make sure, you didn't actually buy that thing right?

I'd be more the kind of guy who would just buy the double joysticks for the Dreamcast or Saturn (they did do a double joystick for the Saturn right?), especially since I only own the Saturn release of Virtual-On.

No way, it's a great game, but I'd rather take a friend to the arcade near me, pay 2 bucks to get in, get a dollar in nickels, and play it two player with sticks.

#14 Posted by vidiot (2737 posts) -

I'll buy it. Someone give me $300.

C'mon. Anyone?

This is the definition of stupid....................or retarded, whichever you prefer.

I think that is a bit harsh.  Not that I am about to buy one, but if you wanted to recreate an arcade feel and you had the money, it isn't such a bad idea.

No thanks.

On the plus side, it could be also be used for a creative take on Geometry Wars, Ikaruga, and the like. But it's just a rather ridiculous luxury.

Nope.

#20 Posted by Jeust (10473 posts) -

While it's an interesting idea to me, as i played virtual on on the arcades and it rocks, I would only buy it if i hadn't anything else more important to spend it on.

It's a luxury i don't care to afford.

#21 Posted by Godwind (2597 posts) -

Even the original TwinSticks didn't cost this much.

The thread creator makes a good point. We need to see another game like STEEL BATTALION. Fuck that game was cool.

@Linkyshinks:
Did you buy it dude?

If I can find someone to play this online with, yes. I would totally get this. But every search turns up NO PLAYERS!

Anyone wanna play? I just bought this shit yesterday, flipping out about how awesome it is, but I want some human players.

Waiiiiit.... if this worked, I would do it then guaranteed. I play dual stick shooters all the damn time. I'm totally into Beat Hazard now. LOVE how it's all custom to your music. That plus these sticks would be supreeeeeme!

@XII_Sniper: I'll play ya. My gamertag can be found on my minibio right above this sentence.

And people say the Madcatz TE is expensive.

At least Hori makes arcade sticks that won't break if you look at them funny.

@Hailinel:

Uh...isn't the Madcatz TE considered the best fightstick on the market?
#29 Posted by Pepsiman (2458 posts) -
@Apathylad: It depends on who you talk to. Those sticks are said to be comparatively better than a lot of Madcatz's other stuff, but I recall reading that some units still had build quality issues. Stuff involving wonky washers underneath the sticks themselves and whatnot, I believe. I can't speak from personal experience since I don't have one, but I know that the reception for those sticks hasn't always been perfectly glowing.

Well, I heard that it was a hit-seller in Japan. And I don't have any problems with that. They're probably out of stock by now. Forever.

Nice first post

I am a huge fan of the series but that asking price is kind of ridiculous. The price of standard wireless controllers is ridiculous too. The nerve of some people.
