The concept of a helpless female character in desperate need of rescuing by a male protagonist, in most cases from a villain or from a form of impending doom.
First concept appearance
The first appearance of the "Damsel in Distress" concept was in the classic arcade game "Donkey Kong", featuring one of the concepts most recognizable characters: Princess Peach. Since Donkey Kong, Peach has actually been the damsel in distress countless times in various games in the "Super Mario Bros" franchise. While each of those games are different in their own respect, the concept of Mario having to rescue Peach from certain doom from villains such as King Bowser etc. have remained pretty much the same.
