Just wondering what videos are worth seeing of Dan before he joined Giant Bomb..
Dan Ryckert
Senior Editor at Giant Bomb from 2014 to 2020. Formerly of Game Informer. Author, Guinness World Record holder, lifelong wrestling mark, and failed musician. After a brief stint as Podcast Producer at WWE Ryckert returned to help guide the next generation of Giant Bomb.
Any recommended videos featuring Dan before he joined GB?
All the videos when he plays games with his dad are hilarious. I sure hope he ends up on a video on this site sometime.
Dan and his dad videos are great. The OverBlood super replay is pretty amazing too. I haven't watched any super replays beyond that, though. PIPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I think he also made a list of some of his favorite videos at GI here as well. My personal favorite from that list has to be Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. Holy shit, what a profoundly egregious game.
Game Informer's Super Replays are good. They're like weird bizarro-universe Endurance Runs, and Dan is in quite a lot of them.
Search for the Half-Life Super Replay. Dan's driving, and it's all good times.
Game Informer Super Replays. He's involved in a number of them, and it's usually good. God is he an asshole in the Psychonauts one though.
Also he broke a world record.
Been mentioned but Illbleed Super Replay is awesome. Best kind of shitty game. All episodes (about 12 including really strange bonus episode with "best" ending) are available on Youtube.

This video of him playing League of Legends is pretty amazing.
OMG I just got to his first five deaths and they are better than I could have ever imagined. It kinda sums up Dan's personality and mind perfectly. He is extremely stubborn and goes into complete denial when faced with anything that goes against his beliefs or preconceived notions, even when there is overwhelming evidence against him. Like, how many times can you walk into a literal whirling cyclone of death and just stand in it? The logical thing would be to run away, but in that perfect Ryckert way he just blames the game. His team even gave him helpful advice after that and he managed to be stubborn and dumb about that, too.
Alright I just skipped to the end talk and it reminds me of how Jeff compares Dota, which is a complex and strategical multiplayer game with 100+ heroes who all play differently, to those objectively bad singleplayer single unit RTS missions which actually require no strategy. It is apples and oranges and Dan has sort of the same line of thinking, although Jeff isn't stubborn and sees the obvious depth and strategy to it.
Still love ya though Dan, even if I'll never understand you.
This feels like a TED talk.
Dan taught the world the how to portray themselves as a real-life character, right? Stephen Colbert couldn't exist without Dan's genius.
This video of him playing League of Legends is pretty amazing.
Oh dear sweet jesus. I don't think I can watch this.
Edit: Well shit. That was something. I really really love that Dan immediately went for the Lizard Wizard build (for those not in League, its a joke about renekton and building AP on him as his ulti's dps scales on magic, its fucking awful though). Boy Dan's not the biggest critical thinker of them all huh? He really expected lvl 5s to explain why tops go top and mids go mid, a conversation that most people need to be in Plat or Diamond to fully understand. Well moba isnt for everyone and as someone who at one point wished for some League content on GB, I'll retract that wish unless someone on staff actually wants to learn
This video of him playing League of Legends is pretty amazing.
It's like watching a goldfish play League of Legends. I have never been more baffled in my entire life. He really doesn't understand how to approach a situation in which "rushing" is a bad idea. And I love his constant whining, and excuse-making at the end there. He is genuinely lovable and a good addition to the crew, but goddammit how does he exist in this world? I feel like the universe should have collapsed into a singularity the moment he said "what am I doing wrong?"
Oh, and Jason seems pretty awesome. Hope to see him in front of the camera at some point.
@wolfgame: Is that Angelica Weaver?
This video of him playing League of Legends is pretty amazing.
Oh my goodness. Dan Ryckert. What a wonderful human being.
Some of the stuff he was doing though was almost ridiculously apparent that it was the wrong thing to do which made this pretty funny. It would have been cool if they had a segment where he watched over the match with them at the end and have them explain what he should have done in certain situations. I feel that would stick more than the tutorial. I also find it kind of ironic that he has this immense belief that surrender/retreat is wrong, yet gives up trying to learn this game as soon as it's over. I share this (annoying at times) trait of relentlessness, but it carries through to everything. I'd research and consult with others and try over and over until I start getting it.
But then again, this is "Dirty" Dan Ryckert we're talking about. And I kind of want him to try Dota 2 with Brad watching over him along with 2 other members in the office that know Dota. Just to see how that goes.
Oh man, I was wondering what to watch after getting caught up with Metal Gear Scanlon. Thanks for planning the next several nights for me!
All the Super Replays, especially Tail of the Sun, Overblood, Blue Stinger and Illbleed (oh, and Half-Life).
This video of him playing League of Legends is pretty amazing.
This video is priceless and is pretty much how one of my friends tried to play league the first time. I'm surprised how well his teammates were behaved.
@gorillamopena: This is incredible.
Anyone seen the Blue Stinger replay? Considering watching that or Illbleed next.
I have, def watch Blue Stinger first.
@dudeglove: The best place to see his sister violently vomit into a bucket over and over again.
@dudeglove: His YouTube channel is amazing. His poor sisters... I was hoping he would bring some of his dumb and goofy bets to Giant Bomb.
This video of him playing League of Legends is pretty amazing.
I find it so endearing that he reverted to his 'Command & Conquer Sneak Strategy' in DoTA, too.
