god of war? not really
Thing about Dante's inferno, i've never read the divine comedy that this game is suppose to be based on prior to playing the game after playing the game i read the poem, biggest problem for anyone who has read the epic poem is that this does not in fact follow the poem. Yes dante is there, beatrice is there, but beatrice is helping dante get out of hell in the poem she isn't his lover.
Im gonna try and break down what i think works with this game and what i think doesn't.
Things i loved about this game 1.) unlike god of war when you hit things you know your hitting them, half the time i played god of war i wasn't sure if i was attacking the minions or not. 2.) hell is a very visceral place the imagery is stunning and gives you this real sense that hell is not the place you wanna be. 3.) the level up system can be fun. 4.) some of the boss fights are a bit disturbing which gives this game a real sense of crawl under your skin effect
(spoiler alert) for those who haven't played it don't read what i didn't like
Things i felt they could have improved on 1.) the guys you fight get rather repetitive 2.) abolishing people sucks, would much rather punish someone and not deal with a stupid mini game 3.) Did we really need to see satan's wang fine i get it, the man or goat is well endowed 4.) to be continued? how are they gonna make a sequel based on the poem when the last two chapters are all about dante walking...there is no way to have fights. use of project natal and sony's wand making us walk for hours? if i wanna walk i'll go outside.
Overall impressions it's a decent enough 3rd person action game, and yes it could have easily failed in more ways, they could have done more with the genre than they did, but i'll easily reccomend this to anyone. if you want to read the epic poem then i recommend the ps3 version. I've played both but i beat this on the xbox 360 so that's why my review is for that version. Xbox 360 got shafted in the extras department.
