Looks good so far, my worries about it being too casual are gone. I just wish it was releasing on PC at the same time as consoles.
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released Mar 11, 2014

I never did finish the two Souls games but I'll probably pick this one up just to show my support for FromSoftware.
Got as far as the first line of "In my opinion – and let’s leave all those arguments about the poor PC port out of this – Dark Souls is the greatest game ever made." and knew the article wasn't for me. I think dark souls was an amazing game with plenty of flaws to pick at, the opinion of someone who thought it was the greatest game ever just straight up isn't useful to me.

Why would there be any question about that? The challenge is the entire appeal. They know that.
If only I could be so grossly incandescent!!....I wonder if Solaire will be mentioned in Dark Souls II

"Parries are the core element of combat in the Souls series"
Whaaaaat?
That's basically true. Although a would have worded that as "a core element" instead of "the core element".
That was kind of weird to read since when I played, I missed the prompt at the beginning and then forgot parrying was even a thing. Not sure how core something can be if you can beat the game without it - although that does put the lie to people who bitch about the difficulty, I suppose. That's kind of the nice thing about the game, though. You spend so much time figuring things out on your own that your playstyle becomes rather personal - which probably makes it's easy to assume your way is the only/best way (At least until some naked dude invades and humiliates you, but whatever).
also, your guys's names are weirdly similar. wat's up with that.
Oh I'm not reading anything about this game. I know I'll buy it at launch and don't want to know anything beforehand.

Anyone want to put the article on pastebin? I don't want to give that click-bait site any ad-revenue.
Man, either go to the site and acknowledge that they produced something your interested in consuming, or skip the article. Don't be a dick.
@towersixteen: Sup, RPS-employee.
@nekroskop: What the hell is wrong with you, man?

Was it confirmed as a prequel? I have my theories on who Solaire actually was, and if I'm right, then he'd have to get at least a mention.

Whaaaaat?
yes indeed.
You say "roll speed is no longer tied to armour weight. I was naked and rolling at the same speed as I was in armour. This is a major change from Dark Souls and, one would hazard a guess, again a PvP-focused change"
unfortunately I could not play although I got into the Beta (T_T) so I could not test this for myself but it seems that this is not entirely true from what I have heard. It seems rather that the rolling speed depends on what is equipped at the time (weapon and armor and now ammos like arrows) and this is then modified according to the new stat "agility" that accelerates rolling, moving and items using in general.
Endurance as it was in DaS has been split into Vitality (max equip burden stat now) and Endurance (amount of stamina) and Agility (movement speed). so even if you are naked but your agility is low you will roll more slowly than someone with a light burden and high agility of sorts.
Mmm this preview talks a lot about how they've changed the game in order to better serve PvP. Frankly I'm not interested in PvP in the slightest and having some overpowered dick unpredictably invade my playthroughs was one of the worst parts about Dark Souls. It seems like they've started to make game-wide balance changes and control tweaks to combat and movement in order to just balance PvP which is disappointing because I would be choosing to opt out of that at every opportunity.
@anwar: I'm just hyped about that inventory layout.

Didn't stop them from making an easy mode patch for Dark Souls though. Nobody ever mentions that. Did I dream it up?
One of the producers suggested an easy mode might widen the appeal but they never did anything about it. Fan backlash made them walk it back and say they were not serious.
I don't see the problem. So long as the default is challenging. Even Ninja Gaiden (a much harder game imo) has Ninja Dog mode.
@mideonnviscera: they patched out some exploits, and they had multiple patches which made the game somewhat easier, dragonbutts were tough as hell for example, before they patched them and made their aggro range extremely small.
That's what I thought. I knew I was annoyed that I beat it on hard mode and everyone who came late got easy mode haha
