What do you use instead of Mp?
Not that it will matter to me, pure physical all the way.
Hmm....It effectively works the same as HP. HP refills are also only gained at the bonfires. No more grass.
Dark Souls
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Sep 22, 2011
A quasi-sequel to From Software's action-RPG Demon's Souls, set in a new universe while retaining most of the basic gameplay and the high level of challenge. It features a less-linear world, a new checkpoint system in the form of bonfires, and the unique Humanity system.
Ask me anything about Dark Souls.

I'm petty sure I've seen a video of some jap girl playing it and she was using several health potions (at least it looked like potions), just as you would use a herb.@onarum said:

That's the point. You only regain the health potions (refills what I called them above) at bonfires.
Well, that sucks......@onarum said:

Oh man, they really didn't improve the graphics by much... Shame.

Look at other videos. That's actually the dullest looking area I've seen so far. Also, PS3 can't draw grass for some reason (compare Mafia II on PS3 and xbox and RDR on PS3 and xbox).

@GuyIncognito: I hope that grass comment wasn't serious...
It was quasi-serious. Also, mentioning graphics to a PC gamer who owns a PS3 as well as a fairly current PC is odd. I'm a fan of Demon's Souls for the gameplay. I don't expect much of the PS3 gpu.
Also, here's a screenshot of Mafia II on PS3:

I'm aware of the Mafia 2 grass issue (it's why I played it on the 360) but a poorly-optimized multiplatform game doesn't mean than the PS3 can't do grass. I mean just look at Uncharted 2.

Uncharted 2 has large grassy areas? I only played the demo and don't remember. Well, the one game with a lot of grass is Flower. :)
EDIT: Note the lack of grass in Uncharted 2:

What's the games structure like? I know there is no hub world this time around but is it still split into worlds? Is the game linear? Do you backtrack?Well it's open world. you can walk to the castle or walk to the forest or walk to somewhere else.
It's not linear because the objective is not actually beating bosses, it's ringing two bells. You have to back track if you ever want to go back to an area for loot or killing monsters or visiting merchants.
Any ideas on the overall difficulty?
My main concern with Dark Souls is that FROM is going to try and live up to the Demon's Souls name by making it even more ridiculously difficult. Demon's Souls was just perfectly brutal.

You should see that huge bigger than anything in DS tooth covered alligator dragon.
Will the 360 version use the bumpers for the right/left hand like R1/L1, or will it be on the triggers. And are the controls customizable? This may heavily sway what console I buy it on.

From what I saw the controls (on the PS3 at least) are pretty much the same as in Demon's Souls. Might be a few changes though. If logic goes then the R1/L1 will mapped to the triggers on the 360 controller. On any case, the PS3 version was lead and the 360 is the port.

From what I've seen, logic doesn't go and PS3 L1/R1 goes to the bumpers on the 360 controller. I don't think controls are customizable either.
Since I'm staying away from the streams which are further into the game, I have some questions for the OP as well.
- You say the player regains lost humanity upon touching his bloodstain. Are you sure of this, because I recall reading that lost humanity is gone forever, unlike lost souls.
- Do all of the strengthened bonfires stay strengthened for the remainder of the playthrough?
- Does humanity that's kept while the player is already in human form contribute to rare item drop rates, and if so, does it stack and increase the rates depending on how much humanity you have?
- What does Attunement actually do?
- I've seen a little bar fill up as the player is attacked by certain enemies. Is this like a status effect bar that inflicts the status if it fills up completely?
- I just read you can do backflips when you reach 30 Dexterity. WHAT.
no you get it back, if you die before getting them back it's gone
I'm pretty sure. if you and another guy are sitting at the same fire, in your own games and one person strengthen their fire the other other gets part of the effects.
I don't know about that one
attunement is the magic stat of the game
it's a status aliment bar, when it fills up you get that aliment
@Anwar:
That's a special book item that does that.
@RsistncE:
Blow it out your ass.
@SirPsychoSexy:
what the other two said.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the world is about three times the size of Demon's Souls and there are about twice as many weapons, items, and armor in the new game, but I don't remember where.

Keep in mind that because its a "open world" they are bound to have alot of terrain that is inaccesible and/or only serves as a backdrop
Demon's souls had linear levels meaning that any place you could go actually had some design intent behind it
I've watched hours and hours and hours of livestreams and barely saw the same place twice. this game is huge.@Kratch said:

My main issue with Demon's Souls stemmed from the unbalanced stat system and character build viability, where there were clearly things that were better then others and other pathways straight up gimped you.
So is heavy armor still going to be useless, still getting 1-2 shot but unable to dodge fuckall?
