Skyrim is in deep shit. At this rate, Dark Souls pwns so rocking hard compared to anything else this year, it is taking GOTY.

Why? Usually when someone says this, they back it up with claims and evidence they have come across or at least personal experiences so that people can understand your point. Dark Souls is a great game, but Skyrim is an entirely different monster.

Sometimes I'll have a thought. That thought will branch out and expand, like a web in my head. Within minutes, I'll be thinking what I believe to be intelligent thoughts. Thoughts I'd like to share and talk about and even get opinions on. But then it comes time to say/write/type in those thoughts, and it hits me like a freight-train of reality; My thoughts are fucking stupid. I have no idea what I'm talking about and I make shit up constantly.

Then I feel bad.

So I get it. I understand. I can relate to you. Don't let it keep you down. Just do what I do: Don't make threads anymore. They won't lead anywhere you want them to and in the end you're just going to feel bad about it.

Of course Skyrim wont get GOTY, it's not Portal 2 after all.

Skyrim will be fine.  Dark Souls, for as good as it is, is a fairly niche game.

I don't think they made enough steps forward to say this is a Game of THE YEAR Material. GOTYs usually are great in all aspects. Dark Souls is a good but they didn't change enough and some of the changes are a step back in my opinion - on top of that it suffers from technical issues.

I don't really like Bethesda RPG's because they all feel dead and static but maybe Skyrim will be different. I wish they'd revisit Morrowind which had such an unconvential fantasy setting instead of furthering the already vast sea of dragon and elf, big castle, spooky ghost dungeon games.

To be fair, all the 'yo you haven't played the game' hate is kind of unnecessary in this thread, it's not like OP compared the two - he's saying Skyrim is really gonna have to pull it out of the bag to be a better experience than Dark Souls.

I agree, Skyrim has some stiff competition for this year's GOTY.

I'm not getting into this debate however I will say this - GOTY or no, Dark Souls is masterpiece as well as an instant classic. This game will live on for years, to be played and remembered.

Play both games first, THEN make a decision.

I enjoy bethesda games, but I have never thought GOTY. Maybe fallout 3 but that was also with all the DLC so it was a litte late. Skyrim will be fun, it will be good i hope. But to be GOTY, i dont think it is. If dark souls was goty, that would be great but i doubt it will. It might be in the top 5 best games of the year but, Goty i dont think it will be. I honestly think Portal 2 will be a good run for that though. So much goodness in that game.

They are both different games and you need to play Skyrim first. I know I will like Dark Souls more because I don't really enjoy the Elder Scrolls games. But I know most people in the west prefer that type of game.

It's hard for me to answer you question. I haven't played either game, yet. I bought Dark Souls because I loved Demons Souls. I will definitely play Skyrim, too. However, I still need to finish or play:

Little Big Planet 2, Dead Space 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Radiant Historia, Crysis 2, Portal 2, Mortal Kombat, L.A. Noir, Dirt 3, Infamous 2, Alice, Shadows of the Damned, Catherine, Deus Ex, Gears of War 3, Warhammer 40K, Resistance 3, Dead Island, Rage, Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, LotR: War in the North, Uncharted 3, CoD: MW3, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and Need for Speed:The Run.

And that's just off the top of my head.

I have no doubt that it will be your game of the year and that's awesome.

I predict that Dark Souls will not be Giant Bomb's game of the year because of some of the games listed above and the simple fact that Jeff doesn't like it.
