There is unique sadism in the way Darkest Dungeon tries on the one hand to make you care about its heroes and yet at the same time does everything in its power to mercilessly slaughter them. You can rename them, tweak their abilities and the process of developing them is fun and rewarding. It has all the things that help you get attached and yet all it takes for everything to come crashing down around you can be a simple game of luck. Love the game. Had a good strategy hook and fairly simple design. Great art as well and it does Lovecraftian horror proud. Also the narrator is awesome! One thing I will say is it's a little too unforgiving with no difficulty. I know that is the point in Lovecraft lore but even some of the starting quests are difficult. The other thing is how half-assed the PS4 port is. Way too many button combo shortcuts. They used the D-pad and the touchscreen poorly as it could've been used in the layout ins...
