Aww, damnit. It sounded like THQ was preparing to delay Darksiders II from its seemingly solid June 26 release date, and the publisher confirmed that delay today. Darksiders II is now aiming for August.

“This is great news for the team at Vigil,” said the companies on the game’s website, “because it allows additional time for polish and to ensure that all aspects of Darksiders II meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting.”

THQ and Vigil also published a FAQ, addressing several questions about the delay. Is it due to the Wii U version? No. Is it because of the layoffs related to Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online? No.

Well, that’s what they’re saying, anyway.

I guess...I guess I can wait, and I’ll just watch the ending to Darksiders again.

At least they aren't canceling it...

Bummer. But at least I'll have more time to play more the early summer releases before I get crushed by my backlog...

Shame, would have filled the Summer gap nicely

I can wait. However, I always prefer games to have a spread release schedule and nobody ever wants to touch early-mid summer for some reason.

The ending of Darksiders is the biggest "FUCK YEAH" moment I've experienced in a video game. Can't wait for D2. Collector's edition!

#8 Posted by Little_Socrates (5439 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Not surprised or necessarily disappointed. I still need to go play the first game.

I always look on the bright side of game delays, its being delayed for a reason. I would rather have a better game later than a buggy game now.

#10 Posted by SlightConfuse (3963 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

was looking foward to it during the summer drought. other games to catch up on

#11 Posted by MrMazz (600 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Well thats a bit of a bummer I was pretty hype for this eh guess I'll just have to wait

"Actually, it's because we just lost thirty-five percent of our manpower, so to get done what we need to, we're having to push the release date back."

I don't usually do fist bumps but Darksiders' ending got me fist bumping the fuck out of my dresser.

#14 Posted by Aaron_G (1572 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Surprised THQ would want it delayed when the really need a game released.

#15 Posted by radioactivez0r (678 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

At some point the game has to go gold, right? And not like a week before release, so how much polishing can really be done at this point? I WANT IT SO BAD

#16 Posted by Rirse (212 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

At least that probably means the PC version won't be two months later from the console version (Darksiders II on the PC was already set for August). Unless they decide to move that to October.

Ha, so you basically started punching furniture? The ending was great man, but damn. :)

Still haven't got round to putting any time into the first one.

#19 Posted by Sporkbane (183 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

This seems like a really poor decision, given they'll be releasing within a month of Borderlands 2, Dark Souls PC, Dishonored, and Bioshock Infinite.

Then again, I guess a better quality game is better late than never, so more power to them.

Slippery slope?

#21 Posted by Cybexx (905 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

August is a great time to launch a game because its often barren of significant games, so no competition. Borderlands and Arkham Asylum both launched in August and did great.

But if Bethesda followed that then we'd never get an Elder Scrolls game :)

#23 Posted by chrissedoff (1695 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

@Cybexx: Deus Ex Human Revolution did the same thing. I agree; August is a great time of the year for underdogs to put out a game.

#24 Posted by Enigma777 (5973 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

As long as THQ still exists in August, it's all good!

#25 Posted by redrhinomn (19 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

This is almost a plus for me personally because it will give me more time to procrastinate playing the first one.

#26 Posted by Leosol (37 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

oh good, now I'll have more time to finish max payne and sorcery, and play the new maps in BF3

#27 Posted by spazmaster666 (1950 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Gives me more time to replay Darksiders again on the PC.

After reading web comics like "The Trenches" and generally having a better understanding of the work environment bug testers are in I can only imagine how horrific the job has been the last few weeks leading up to this decision.

#30 Posted by hermes (715 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I never get to finish the first one, guess this gives me some extra time...

#31 Posted by MoseSSesoM (235 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Well on the plus side I can now probably buy it when it comes out.

Its slang, both spellings are correct.

If their reasons are honest, it makes unusually good sense for a failing company to try and make sure its last chance at getting its head above water is its best possible effort.

I've got no interest in more Darksiders at full price, though. Art style was a turnoff for me, as is its prequel nature.

#35 Posted by buzz_killington (3532 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Hey guys, please please go and buy Darksiders II when it comes out. Let's save THQ, they have a lot of cool shit in the pipes, like the Guillermo del Toro, Itagaki, and Patrice Desilets (creator of Assassin's Creed) games.

#36 Posted by MooseyMcMan (8559 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

So long as this ends up improving the final product, then this is bearable. This game had better be really good though. At this point Saints Row and Darksiders are about the only things THQ has going for it.

#37 Posted by blacklab (1263 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Hmm...just picked up Darksiders and am really enjoying it. Will probably need the time to finish the first one anyway.

#38 Posted by Krakn3Dfx (2078 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I fully expect a THQ Kickstarter any day now to cover the cost of printing the game discs.

#39 Posted by Cronus42 (246 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Never seen short delays as a bad thing. It means I'll be splitting time with this and Dark Souls when it hits PC, but a more polished game is always worth it.

#40 Posted by Mackinder (62 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm okay with this. Gives me more time to get round to playing the original Darksiders. Loved the demo and picked up on PC along with a pad; just didn't get round to actually... you know, playing it.

#41 Posted by Warchief (595 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

no surprise at all guess its a result of THQ laying off a bunch of folks at Vigil.

#42 Posted by LooseChange (1693 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Dammit. This was going to be my main summer game along with NCAA 13 for July. Oh well.. guess.. I can wait. I just hope it doesn't get swallowed up with the big releases from August on.

#43 Posted by Godzillakilla (8 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I really need to check Darksiders. Never tried it but i keep hearing that it was pretty good.

#44 Posted by IAmNotBatman (497 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Hopefully it is being delayed for the reasons they claim, and nothing more than that.

#45 Posted by Dan_CiTi (2548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Good, game deserves to be a good as it can be.

I really hope its just for extra polish and not because the game isn't coming out so good. Darksiders was so great

Exact same situation here! Too many good games and Steam has made me it's bitch.

@CJduke said:

if that were the case, it wouldn't be fixable in less than 2 months anyway. those delays are the "whoops, now it's early next year"-type.

#49 Posted by Lazyaza (1991 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I already pre-purchased this on steam being a massive fan of the first so this kinda sucks but oh well games are always better the more polished they are and I can wait a month or so longer I guess.
