Legacy of Kain and Darksiders

I kept hearing how much this game feels like Legend of Zelda and God of War, but really it reminds me of an HD Legacy of Kain successor in a different universe. War even kind of feels like a mix of Kain and Raziel. Of course the Kain series borrowed heavily from Zelda as well. I am surprised I haven't really heard or read thsi brought up though, it seems so obvious.

I've heard about a thousand people say that, I personally don't see it at all.

I find the similarities to Zelda are ridiculous in Darksiders.

-You get a horse
-Levels are based around dungeons
-Each dungeon has it's own treasure
-Each dungeon is built around the item you get in said dungeon
-Each dungeon has a map and compass (Hoardseeker)
-The story starts with finding mystical items shattered across the world
-You have a floating companion to accompany you
-You can assign 3 items to the d-pad (C buttons on N64)
-Zelda has hearts and MP, Darksiders has skulls and Wrath
-When in dialogue, nouns and anything of importance is highlighted in a certain color
-Abyssal Chain works exactly like Hookshot
-Crossblade works exactly like Boomerang
-Lock on system is identical, even down to the widescreen way it goes when you lock on (bottom frames cut a little)

Now while there are still a ton more similarities, Darksiders does do some other things differently than Zelda though. It's just that I felt like I was playing a Zelda game most of the time. I haven't played any of the Kain games but I hear they are very good, I've never heard of it being compared to Darksiders though.

I would say that yes it borrows from LoZ, but it FEELS way more like Kain. I guess that was my point.

While it overtly borrows from Zelda, down to power ups and transportation, I don't feel so much like I am playing a Zelda game. Likely thanks to the jumping and climbing, thinks the SOul Reaver games were full of. They had Zelda like puzzles and exploration, but the movement style was different, same with Darksiders, you get around much more like Soul Reaver. Plus the color palette, and end of the world vibe adds to the feeling.

I totally agree with this, I think Darksiders feels a little more on the Soul Reaver side of things, & I was actually really surprised to learn that Simon Templeman did not voice War because he sound's so damn similar to Kain.
