Like ravaging angels and demons with pointy weapons and horses? Do you enjoy the sweet satisfaction of figuring out complex dungeon puzzles, or discovering a fresh item to store on already weighty utility belts? If you answered positively to the majority of these questions, then it appears as if Vigil Games' Darksiders is right up your alley. But the game's forthcoming Thursday PC release makes me want to ask you another question. Do you like free games? Good, because you'll get one if you decide to pre-order digital versions of the game with several participating retailers.

Steam pre-orders, according to publisher THQ, will net the pre-purchaser a free copy of Titan Quest Gold Edition. Direct2Drive, however, is offering Red Faction: Guerrilla, while GameTap is dishing out Company of Heroes for free with each pre-order.

 Pictured: Awesome.

These are sound deals for a fantastic game that was already totally worth playing. Jump in before this Thursday though, or else these deals will be out of reach.

Awesome deals hope the PC version is good, not sure the game is for me though.

Too bad I already own Titan Quest Gold and Red Faction: Guerrilla... Company of Heroes is awesome but I'm not playing on replaying it.
I won't be buying Darksiders on day one but will pick it up for sure during the holidays :)

Played Darksiders on the PS3 and cannot stress enough how fun and entertaining it was. If this incentive of free games with pre-orders isn't enough for PC gamers to get it then they're sorely losing out.

Normally I'm not one to point it out when something is old news, but these pre-order offers for Darksiders has been going for a couple weeks already.

Eighth!

Edit: what's Stardock offering?

#10 Posted by Cybexx (1151 posts) -

I think they did the same thing with the 360/PS3 versions where there was a coupon or something in the box. Though not all boxes came with it which made me a sad Cybexx....

#11 Edited by Heliosicle (83 posts) -

I own all 3 of those games damnit!

edit: seems to have been taken off the steam store in the UK anyway, :(

You know, it would be really cool if they put out a demo for this instead.

You know...PC ports and all...

#15 Edited by lacke (360 posts) -

The only game I like out of those, I already own which is CoH. Well I also own Titan Quest but I don't like it. Still it's a good offer.

Anyway, when I get Darksiders it'll be the 360 version for the achievement points unless the PC version has GFWL achievement points.

#16 Posted by crusader8463 (14412 posts) -

Eh, I own all of those games already.

I was gonna say ....
Played the game on PS3 and it was kinda ok.
But these kind of articles are not exactly sitting well with me.
#18 Posted by MisterMouse (3540 posts) -

that is kind of cool, two games for the price for one... I guess they are older games though

Nope.avi.

World of Zoo or no deal.
#20 Posted by MrKlorox (11206 posts) -

Wasn't impressed with Darksiders demo on 360 so gonna pass on the PC version. Plus I already own all those games.

#21 Posted by rottendevice (159 posts) -

I... already have all of those games.  Thanks, Steam summer sale.

Maybe, but he's not wrong. Darksiders is awesome. I loved it. That plus a free Red Faction? If I hadn't already played them both to death I'd pick it up.
#23 Posted by KinjiroSSD (694 posts) -

Loved Darksiders enough to get the platinum. I recommend it to all PC gamers who missed it on the consoles.

I totally agree with Hamz! Darksiders was totally awesome! "kinda ok" is underselling it by a loooong long long shot

I hope this is a good port with the extra time they took.  I've already pre-loaded and steam says it will unlock in 10 hours.

Same.

TQ was a nice bonus. Playing through it with a friend and it's not half bad.

It's madness i tell you! MADNESS!

#28 Posted by radioactivez0r (829 posts) -

I almost feel like double dipping just to support Vigil, as I totally loved this game on 360.  But I already have all the bonus games on Steam, so perhaps waiting until a sale is appropriate.  For those who haven't played it yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Except I'm guessing - and please correct me if I'm wrong - that neither of you have even actually played Darksiders on the PC, and as such are in no position at all to be saying how 'fantastic' or 'awesome' it is.  What happens when the PC version is a train wreck?  Will Giant Bomb give me a refund?  I don't think giving a totally unguarded recommendation on a product without first-hand experience of it is very smart, and I don't think using hard-sell marketing speak when giving that recommendation is very appropriate.  Even if it does come with a 'free' copy of some x year old game.
#30 Posted by tengblad (5 posts) -

It's a bit of a shame that THQ feels they need the incentive of a free game for Darksiders to sell on the PC. I hope that's not a sign of they lacking faith in the PC conversion. On the 360 it is definitely one of my favourite games of this year, so far. I do hope it does well on the PC, as it is a game that deserves a lot more attention than it received at its original release.

#31 Posted by ch13696 (4582 posts) -

Why is this news? Steam does this all the time.

#32 Posted by ectoplasma (962 posts) -

I wont pay full price for a game that should have been on pc a year ago. And then trusting them that they wont butcher the port in exchange for a crappy game. lol.

Seems like the editorial voice of Giant Bomb is that of people that really like video games as opposed to a more stodgy, fully impartial voice of truth. There is some risk since it's a pre-order, but Darksiders on console was superb. The games that it -- ahem -- borrows from were all great as well. It's possible that you might have a better experience with it sticking a 360 controller into a USB port, but the probability of a train wreck seems low. It's a port, so you're right to be concerned, but these are great games.  I don't see the article as being out of line.

Anyone have any idea about the HELLBOOK EDITION of the game?

Same here, I even went out of my way to get all the trophies and that took some time.
#36 Posted by MrCHUP0N (245 posts) -

Goddammit, I have all three games already...

#37 Posted by Capum15 (4813 posts) -

Too bad I've had those three games since last Thanksgiving's Black Friday Steam Sale with the THQ complete pack.

#38 Posted by captain_clayman (3319 posts) -

mmmm red faction.

#39 Posted by Blind_Evil (306 posts) -

I have no interest in the PC version, but if you're on the fence I cannot recommend Darksiders strongly enough.  If you have any interest in adventure games it is simply a must-play.

here's the pc version of the game in action

This is just now coming out on the PC?!

Also, I just can't get into this game, because I can't get past the "I'M TWELVE YEARS OLD AND EVERY CHARACTER I DRAW HAS TO HAVE MUSCLES ON MUSCLES ON MUSCLES ON
MUSCLES " retarded art-style.

i agree with this. you can have a masculine character without the need for his biceps to be as big as a transmission.

Why would you not already own these games?

I love just about everything that's over the top. It pretty much defines my tastes in just about anything. The exaggerated size helps haha.

This is a ridiculous complaint imo, the protagonist is supposed to be the personification of war. Physical prowess(strength/endurance) is a pretty important concept for being a successful fighter, makes sense for it to be exaggerated especially since everything else in this game is.  I actually thought the art style was pretty awesome for the, not taking itself too serious, goofy fun that was this game. I'm sure Death, Strife, and Pestilence wouldn't have looked anything like War. I'm curious to know what  kind of character design you think would have fit the atmosphere better?
#47 Posted by SeriouslyNow (8534 posts) -

Just more proof that PC gaming is nowhere near death.  If it was, they wouldn't even bother to offer pre-order freebies like these.  Also, if this gets more people to experience the glory that is Red Faction : Guerrilla that's a good thing.

Aahhh.. Darksiders. A game I kinda wished I played, but  felt I'd already completed it with God of War. :B

I think Kratos is a good mix, he embodies war because of his anger. Although still quite muscley...

I am so sick of this mentality towards Darksiders.  It does not play like God of War and it is an awesome game well worth anyone's 60 dollars.  The least you can do is play the generously lengthy demo before having an opinion.
