In case you didn't know, David Hayter does more than sound like a badass for a living (But who'd want to do more than that?) He is also a screenwriter who has had some hit and misses. Probably his most famous screenplay was X-Men 1. But I was looking on IMDB and I saw him credited for co-writing the screenplay for the Watchmen movie. That's a big wow from me (and I'm sure a big "fuck you" from lovers of the GN and haters of the movie). But regardless, this is a pretty big surprise to me. Well done, Mr. Hayter. Well done.

    You didn't know that?

Also, David Hayter also acted in some films. He was the star of a film called Guyver 2.

Man, so what would people think if they knew that he was originally attached to direct the movie after Terry Gilliam stopped wanting to make it?

LOL  What if I also told you that the dood who played Punisher in Punisher: War Zone did the original test footage for the flick?

Hell, what if I told you that Hayter was writing Watchmen when he was CO-WRITING THE SCORPION KING?!

YEAH, I READ THE LOS ANGELES TIMES!  SO WHAT?!

I knew a lot of this before that anyways.  = D

Okay so I had no idea that he was even involved with this movie until now. How much of Hayter's original version actually made it to being filmed before somebody else came around and worked on it? Or did Hayter do just that and worked on somebody's previous screenplay? STOP CONFUSIN ME JAKOB!

Thats why it is impressive. Because the movie remains true to the book. Its easy to stray from original sources, its hard to translate it into film. Most books fail to have good screen adaptations. Watchmen is one of the best i've seen.

Note that David Hayter's screenplay as he wrote it is not what was used for the final movie.  Hayter had modernized the setting in an attempt to make the movie more contemporary.  Alex Tse was brought into built on the drafts Hayter wrote and create a script that returned the movie to its original Cold War setting.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hayter)

Exactly. It makes me wonder what Hayter's original screenplay was so I hope that comes as a special feature on the full DVD package.

Again, you have it backwards. Yeah, the movie is very true to the book, but that why its impressive. They have been trying to make a Watchmen movie for 20 years. This was the first screenplay that was chosen. You think its easy bringing one of the most loved novels to film?

Yeah I did know that he wrote the script, he originally tried to modernize the story, glad they didn't do that.

Actually, the Watchmen creator loved the idea and said that Hayter's was the best script for any of his comic-to-movie translations.

@Fr0Br0: He's done screenplays for many sci-fi, action, and comic book style movies.  He had done a Black Widow script a while back too.
