    David "Zoid" Kirsch is a former gameplay programmer. His Threewave CTF mod is responsible for popularizing the Capture The Flag mode in first-person shooters.

    Zoid's first notable work was Threewave CTF, an influential Capture The Flag mod for Quake. Following the massive success of his mod, he was hired by id to design CTF modes for Quake II and Quake III. In 2000, he left id to join Retro Studios and worked as a senior programmer on the first two Metroid Prime games.

    After working for a couple of years on an MMO at Carbine Studios, he joined Valve where he worked on Dota 2. In January 2018, he has left Valve to work at Blizzard Entertainment as a Principal Software Engineer. At the start of July 2021, Zoid retired from the game industry, to focus on himself and family.
