Daytona initially appeared in Konami's Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge, the first licensed NASCAR video game, created in 1991. However, the Speedway would not return to NASCAR games again until 2001. Both EA Sports and Papyrus would secure rights to use Daytona from the International Speedway Corporation in time for the release of NASCAR 2001 and NASCAR Racing 4 respectively. Daytona International Speedway has continued to appear in every subsequent sequel of the two series from then on.
