Yo I don't like shit jumpin out n screamin at me in the dark.
I like Dead Rising, and I'm cool with dark games like Bioshock and Alan Wake, but does Dead Island turn into Dead Space or F.E.A.R at any point?
Game » consists of 24 releases. Released Sep 06, 2011
it's tense because shit can go real bad for you in a split second, but the game does not have a harsh death penalty so no need to worry too much
Not that many dark places on that tropical island. I'd say it's about as scary/harmless as Left 4 Dead 2.
It's scary when the fast zombies start punching you like their arms are machine guns. That is some scary shit.
Some jump scares...
But most of em are just from zombies who are lying around.
So you will even those coming after a few.
It's creepy when you're concentrating on something then all of a sudden you turn around and there's like 3 infected coming down on you, cause you know you're gonna die. And the penalty for death is money gets taken, and the more you have the more they take. And if you used up all your good weapons, they don't get replaced. So, for me, I would say the penalty is pretty shitty. Not demons souls shitty, but pretty shitty.
The first time an infected can be heard fucking screaming, you see it in the distance, and it starts charging you. Its a tense moment because you have only been fighting shambling zombies up until then (its only like 10 minutes in)
Another time that is bound to happen is you hear the infected screaming and you know they're coming for you, but you don't know from where until they're RIGHT IN YOUR FACE

I thought Bioshock was too awesome with all the traps and super powers for me to notice it was ever creepy.
and nobody remembers this, but Alan Wake does this thing where at random times it'd flash eyes on the screen and get REALLY FUCKING LOUD for 1 second, and then go back to normal. It pissed me right off and was my main complaint about the game.
I'm not very far into the game yet, probably 5 to 6 hours, and so far it has not been very scary. But the shit does get intense. I've actually found myself screaming out loud a couple of times when I've been low on health, far from safe zones and super fast zambees keep creeping up on me.
Headphones on and you will hear any zombies approaching so you'll be ready to attack. You might get startled by the "dead" ones when they surprisingly rise and start biting. Kick every zombie while they are lying, and reduce the chances of that happening. No, it's not the scary game :P
Hardly and I'm a guy who don't like scary. The only time it only jumped was in the first hour of the game when what you thought is a dead zombie - isn't. So you get around by just kicking every body you see. If it doesn't moan, it's cool. Otherwise, keep kicking.
With teammates the jumpy shit can get fun. In the jungle for example while playing with 2 other friends we were doing missions at the lab. My friend can't drive for shit. We were fleeing tons of zombies so he crashes into a ditch. I'm sitting in the back and can literaly see the Zombies coming up to the car. We all screamed as he tried to get out the ditch until 2 of us abandoned the car and ran for it.That paragraph would sell me the game instantly!.

It happens once really early on, then it happens about once every couple hours, then in the last act it happens about every 20 minutes. You could completely miss it unless you're someone like me who plays games loud, and fucking backflips off a chair every time.
