Dead or Alive 3 is the third installment of Team Ninja's 3D Fighting game series Dead or Alive. Hitomi the karate master, Christie the assassin and drunken fighter, Brad Wong are added to the roster. The superior Japanese 3.1 release tweaked the gameplay mechanics and moves creating a masterpiece never released in the states.

Concepts

Alternate Costumes

Characters either begin with multiple outfits, unlock them through play, or purchase them as in-game items. These costumes are sometimes integral to play.
Blood Type

Games in which the blood type of a character is provided in their description. In Japanese culture blood type is thought to help determine compatibility between people.
Breaking Through Windows

Whether jumping, crashing, or being thrown, objects & characters traveling loudly through windows never ceases to be entertaining.

The deliberate animation of breasts, either in an exaggerated fashion meant to titillate, or as a means to conform to more realistic physics.
Button Mashing

Button Mashing is a concept used to describe any game or gameplay wherein skill is an aside to how fast a player can hit the buttons on the controller.
Cameo Appearance

When a character from an existing media franchise makes a brief appearance in a video game, sometimes without even openly acknowledging their origins.
Character Select Screen

A concept in games with multiple characters, a screen with pictures of all playable characters with the possibility of stat listings.
Combo

Typically found in fighting games, combos are a series of strung-together moves.
Conveniently Obscured Nudity

Due to crafty camera angles and conveniently placed objects in the environment, the nudity in the scene is obscured from view.
Counter System

The ability to counter a move.
Cutscene Menu

Don't you just love it when a game lets you view all the cutscenes without having to play it all over again? Every game should have this feature.
Disembodied Voice

Voice actors don't always get an NPC to represent them. Sometimes voices have no visible speaker.
DOATEC

The Dead Or Alive Tournament Executive Committee is the contributor to the Dead or Alive Martial Arts Tournaments. DOATEC has been secretly conducting experiments on fighters to create the "ultimate fighting machine".
Drunk Character

Some characters get drunk off of alcohol, others get drunk off of the atmosphere and can't feel their own face.

Final Boss

The last boss you face in a game, usually representing the final climax of the game.

Izuna Drop

The Izuna Drop's origin began in the 1969 manga called Ninpu Kamui Gaiden OP (The Legend of Kamui). Kamui learned this move from watching birds attack each other. Many fictional ninja and/or video game characters use Kamui's move to this day, such as Vega (Street Fighter), Ryu Hayabusa (Dead or Alive / Ninja Gaiden), and Kage-Maru (Virtua Fighter).

Juggling

This is a concept in fighting or other action games of attacking an enemy in order to keep the enemy in the air, unable to fight back. This is also a tactic in tower defense games of keeping the enemy on the battlefield longer by manipulating towers.

It's arguably the one move that symbolizes the medium to those outside it. The ability to jump, be it onto building, onto platforms, or onto skulls, is one of the all time most important abilities ever put in a video game.
