So I've been scrounging around for any and all news about DOA 5 and apparently there is this little bit of news coming out of TGS:

At TGS, it was stated that these "rare" costumes - as they call them - are unlocked by clearing the unlockable "Legend" difficulty (the highest unlockable difficulty) in either Time Attack or Arcade (can't remember). What's more, the opponents are random, and you must defeat the opponent when they have this "rare" costume on during gameplay to unlock it. The chances of encountering them are at least 30%.

So, if you wanna see the really skimpy bikini's they aren't DLC you have to actually work your ass off for them:

• Must be on Legend the 7th and hardest difficulty setting
• Must play Arcade or Time Attack with 2 round matches
• You have a 30% chance of encountering an enemy wearing a "Rare" costume

This seems a interesting route and similar thing to what Mortal Kombat did locking Mlieena's skimpy outfit behind completing the challenge tower. Things like this is what get me excited about the game not so much for the oogling at the bikinis but the fact that they packed all sorts of little things like this in the game to give you things to do.

I like this too, it's a good way to go about things. Do we know how many rare costumes there are?

This game is so hard to play one-handed.

@Wong_Fei_Hung: Not really, there are a few other screenshots that people took of a few of the other costumes that I uh...decided not to post because they seemed rather tasteless (a.k.a gratutitous zoomed in panty shots) Its safe to say that all the girls have at least ONE costume though. I'm hoping the guys have some rare costumes as well. Really looking forward to see what costumes Hayabusa has. I'd be stoked if he had some of his DLC costumes from Ninja Gaiden 2.

Cool aparently only Namco and Tecmo remember that you can put costumes as unlockables rather than charging for them.

The thread title made me think of DOA-style Kazooie cosplay.

I honestly don't know how to feel about that.

Perhaps not knowing is a good thing - It would be cool if they could continue to add the odd costume in the BG as DLC, with players not knowing what's been added.

I wish they were not more Bikini's but I fully support the notion.

@Wong_Fei_Hung: Actually that is one detail that I REALLY like about DOA 5. This is the first time in a DOA game that Ryu has appeared with the Dragon Sword on his back. I mean.. it only makes sense for him to have it. It would be cool like you said if some other famous weapons could appear on his back.

I like the fact that they aren't DLC, but given how bad I am at fighting games it looks like I'll never get them. I always like to think each fighting game will be the one I devote a lot of time to but it never happens. =P

Ah well, looks like no skimpy outfits for me ...

Way too much effort to put into playing a single player mode in a fighting game. Especially in DOA where "difficulty" is just the CPU increasing the frequency with which is correctly "guesses" holds. It's not a matter of making them hard to obtain, it's literally just playing Rock Paper Scissors against a machine that lets you win every now and then. If it's not a human opponent, it's pointless.

So update on this. The rules have been cleared up on this. There are only three costumes like this. One for Christie,Tina and Lisa. For tinas you play arcade mode on legend. Again 30% chance of a drop for Christies you play Time Attack 30% chance of drop. Oh...ready for the big one?

For Lisa's you need to beat Survival on legend. Yeah, that is right you have to defeat 100 opponents in a row on legend with again only a 30% drop. I doubt we see many people with that Lisa costume. Because that sounds INSANE.

Bet Lisa's is the Venus then.

I get that the boobs are kind of the point, but I'd be more likely to suffer for a costume that some actual art design had gone into.

I hope they put these up for sale on PSN/XBL cos I want the outfits but I'm not very good at fighters. Finished the story in one sitting, but playing this on the hardest setting I bet is well hard. I will try, but I hope they also put them up for sale too. I will buy any outfits they put up for sale, I love this game man, hope they just stick tons of DLC out for it!

There are people online who are terrible at the game but have these costumes. When I try my hardest...I get blown up.

I even try my Hitomi's <--P+K exploit and it only gets me as far as the 5th stage.

It may not be exciting or fun but abusing Lei Fang's down+back P+K works real well.

Does anyone have a chart with the every costume and what I need to do to unlock them?

Is there an SRK equivalent for DOA (in terms of dedicated website?)

I did as well. I was expecting to see a sexy gruntilda costume somewhere. I leave the thread disappointed.

It took me forever to figure this out, but it appears that you get one costume for beating the arcade mode at each difficulty level. That is to say, beating arcade with Tina got me one costume. I didn't get another until I increased the difficulty level. I cant see myself ever beating the ame at any harder level though...

Turns out it's not every difficulty, I got the title for all costumes for Ayana while I had 3 more difficulties to go.

That seems like a less arduous task, but more palatable.

This seems like a legit strategy to unlock some bonus costumes.

And by "legit" I mean probably the only possible way

Well I got to round 4 on Legend with just my normal way of fighting so it's not the only way, sure makes it easier. let's hope it works.
