    Dead or Alive 5

Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Sep 25, 2012

Dead or Alive 5 is the seventh entry in the Dead or Alive fighting game franchise, introducing a new visual style, new game mechanics, and highly interactive stages.

I'm pretty impressed with character model improvements.

they wanted to take the series in a more mature direction. The fan service is still there but its more down played this time around for a more realistic tone.

I didn't say it wasn't there. And from all the costumes I've seen in game most of them are fairly more conservative in nature. The Bikini costumes all require to you to either pre-order or get the collectors edition at that point your basically seeking out the fan service so you can't really complain.

Where do I have to preorder from to get the bikini costume for that cute german girl.

    Do you mean this one:

Or do you mean the bunny costumes? If its this one above you need to pre-order the gamestop collectors edition. If your just after the bunny costume all you need to do is pre-order it from gamestop to get the white bunny for Hitomi, Kasumi and think Li-fang. There are black versions of the bunny costumes for Ayane , Christie and Tina if you preorder from amazon. But only gamestop has the collectors edition.

Man what is the draw with bunny costumes. How do those giant ears add to their sex appeal at all.

@Hunter5024: I don't know man, but I personally find the classic Playboy Bunny costume pretty attractive.

Some kinks just aren't easy to explain.

I have a theory that every time a company improves their female chracter models (or just aims for a more "realistic" design), all they do is make their previous character look more like Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII (I assume there is a step that they are all aiming for past that, but it seems like right now they just converge at that face shape) - this includes Final Fantasy as well btw (I'm not pointing it out for any reason other than it seems to be an odd coincidence that they look more and more like her).

Wow, I didn't realize how much better the characters looked, and I thought DOA4 looked amazing when it came out. I hope the environments take the same jump in detail.

@Demoskinos: It's already balanced. Tekken Tag 2 has been out in Japanese and Korean arcades for a while now, the arcade machines are all connected to Namco servers, and they have already gone through a major revision. DOA on the other hand has not been playtested by any kind of community so there will likely be a few exploits that may or may not ever be fixed

Actually you are wrong about DOA. They've been constantly having pro-DOA players play the game and give feedback. They also took a ton of feedback from the player survey for those who played the alpha demo. They have made major revisions to the game since the early stages retooling entire systems and adding other entirely new systems like critical bursts.

OK then, but the systems in Tekken are well established and the balance changes I'm talking about very subtle refinements that most players wouldn't notice, whereas for DOA it sounds like they aren't sure what direction to take with the mechanics, it's just as well that they are involving players now Itagaki is gone, just don't expect it to be balanced on release. I'm sure it will be fine as long as is is supported for a while after it comes out - it's never been a hardcore fighting game though and I don't think that is what fans expect :)

You can maintain a serious tone while still allowing for goofiness. Just look at the Metal Gear Solid series for that.

That's not to say that DOA5 will succeed in their previously stated goal, but it's not impossible.

As far as I know DOA has yet to strike that balance and they are on the fifth iteration. My guess is that they won't succeed.

They already worked on cleaning up the series continuity in Dead or Alive: Dimensions and we only have to go by what they've stated in interviews. This is the first full DOA title with all-new assets since DOA4. It's being made by a different Team Ninja. They might not succeed, but I feel that they should be given the benefit of the doubt for now.

No, I'm good. Someone else can give them the benefit of the doubt. I won't though. Did I mention the women in bunny suits? How about the fact that these 'sexy' suits are based around pre-orders? Or this...

"Since the departure of Tomonobu Itagaki back in 2008, Team Ninja has attempted to shake its reputation as nothing but a stylish, sex-crazed gore factory. It attempted to give Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa a softer side, for one. Only two months ago, Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi said Dead or Alive 5 will rise beyond "sex and violence," instead pursing "a direction that contains emotional experiences that can move players."

Now, in an interview with Famitsu, Hayashi has now revealed that Dead or Alive 5's voluptuous vixens will feature costume-specific breast physics. Furthermore, each costume will have varying levels of transparency. It sounds like a contradiction to Hayashi's previous statements ... that is, of course, until you realize that "move" is a very ambiguous term."

I wasn't really talking to you dude. But, in case you are wondering, DOA 5 looks like the same shit Team Ninja always does. Meaning idiotic sex-based objectification of women including apparent sexy costumes and boob physics that look like gerbils are running around inside of the female characters' chest. Yeah, I'm sure the polygon count is higher. I'm sure the environments are nicely designed. I'm sure that the fighting system is fun. But I'm not at all interested in supporting such juvenile nonsense. Not that I can't support juvenile nonsense. I love Saint's Row 3. But SR3 is self-aware and funny. DOA is simply crude.

So I guess what I'm saying is thanks but no thanks.

I am curious as well. I would have though that the 360 would be hands down the most popular version but comments from people would say otherwise. I will be getting it on 360 myself.

How about "Dead or Alive Xtreme Cross-Country Skiing"?

Just to mess with everyone by putting all the characters in heavy snow-gear.

One of the things that always turned me off of this series were the bad, same-y faces so yeah, that looks like a huge improvement. Especially when you see them side to side. I'm still more likely to get the Tekken game though, probably.

Not surprising considering DOA4 was essentially an Xbox game with a slightly higher polycount, like all early games in this gen. Seven years later, of course they've upped the ante on the graphics.

    Also obligatory comment on digititties.

And instead of lounging by the pool between events, they could hang out at the ski lodge, build snowmen, and pet a Saint Bernard.

This game looks like it's following the generally standard japanese way of designing character models, where they all have long arms, huge hands, no torso, huge hips and giant legs. Yeah, it's more realistic, I guess, but it's still goofy and unrealistic in a weird way. I'm nit-picking and I'm not stating this as I reason I'm not interested, but I'm using this as my avenue to vent my irritation with this trend. I'm probably the only one who notices this, anyway. Oh well.

Yeah I also find them very odd. I don't think it's just a Japanese thing, but I see it as one too.
