Its all very simple, the game is 90% unchanged from the first game and thats not a good thing.  When the first game came out, it didn't need to be perfect or even great to be a success as it was 'different' and 'fresh'.  A lot has changed since then and now, Dead Rising 2 is a shallow experience.

Instead of using current technology to allow us the use of a town or at least part of a city, we are again stuck in a mall.  A mall that is quite frankly boring.  Most stores you'll only ever go in once to see if there is anything good which is usually not the case.  You will spend most of your time running from location to location and never bothering to stop because there is nothing interesting else to do along the way.  See an ATM, smash it for money, see a looter, kill him for the points.  You will do that countless times.

I don't understand how you can have four bats in your inventory but if you try to grab a wheelchair with a full inventory, you will drop whatever you are holding, why?  Things that can't be stored in your inventory should not count as one.  Stupid.  The biggest new thing for the entire game is the combine system.  You take items and combine them to create a better weapon.  A bat and nails makes a nice spiked bat.  A flash light and gems make a lightsaber.  And dumb stuff like a can of spray paint and a yellow cone make a air horn that sucks anyway.  Eventually you will discover certain things that make the best weapons and not bother with the rest.  Unless you are trying to farm mass amounts of points, most of the stuff will get you hurt like the stupid air horn.  I think it would be real nice if whatever items we bring to the maintenance room stays there.  Or, allow us to buy like a card that allows us to spawn the items or the combo item at the room.  It would sure make me want to find better combo weapons if I didn't have to go all over BFE to find the stuff.

The entire game is one time limit event after another.  If you don't make it back to start a story mission on time, its game over man.  No joke.  Even thou you are in constant contact with the safe area, game over man.  You don't have to rescue anyone besides story mission people and after doing it for a few hours, you will find out thats all there is to do besides story missions.  There are psychopaths who can destroy you if you aren't prepared but I'm sure you remembered to save right?  No?  Shame, there goes an hour of playing.  What should be auto save events, you better run if you stumble into one with no food and just some basic melee items.

The game isn't meant to be easy but it don't help that the bosses and psychopaths are over powered.  Guns are near worthless and don't do as much damage as even the basic spiked bat.  Thats some BS.  The melee is clunky and does not make for a very fun combat experience.  You can move and shoot guns but as I said, they are only good against basic zombies.

Unless you just eat this game up, there is no point of replaying it even in new game+ mode.  I was ready for the game to be over by the third day.  I was just bored of saving people and killing a random nut job while waiting for the next story mission.  I couldn't help but think what a great game it could have been had they actually tried to do something more instead of just milking it.

There was no concealing it, and definitely no attempt to, Dead Rising 2 is about as literal of a sequel as one can get. It's the same mechanics, the same layout, and the same premise, but with different story and characters.  I thought I had seen it all in the gaming world; Conker, First- person shooters in a different galaxy, Noby Noby Boy, but when I found myself in an Evil Knievel outfit riding a "sliceycle" whilst wielding a light saber, my view of the possible changed. Dead Rising 2 takes t...
