I'll bite and finally just come out and say what everyone else has been thinking for years.
"Does anyone else appreciate this series as much as I do?"
You unique little snowflake. You are without a single doubt in anyones mind the only person in the universe who appreciates the Dead Space games.
Everyone else and their mothers hate that series.
As for Dead Space 3, I don't know what's gonna happen in that game.
Wouldn't it be cool if there was like, some sort of artifact that somehow controlled al the Necromorphs?
Like some spire-looking thing that was uncovered but then destroyed and then rebuilt and then destroyed and then rebuilt again? All the Necro's will just mass around this thing and it makes them stronger and makes people who are weak minded able to be controlled by the very same artifact? I think it sounds like a brilliant idea that they should look at since they haven't done that yet... twice.
In all seriousness though, I enjoy those games.
Dead Space
The Dead Space franchise tells the story of the outbreak of the Necromorph infection on the space mining vessel, U.S.G Ishimura.
Dead Space Appreciation
@MattSchwabby: Dead Space 1+2 and REsident Evil 4 are my favorite survival horror games. And yea Dead Space is incredible!
Still haven't played Dead Space 2, but I loved the first game. I even bought the mobile game, but haven't gotten very far into that yet.
THats all that has been said. Just that its based on a snow planet.Seriously, how awesome is this series? The atmosphere, the tension, the creepy religious allegories, the dismemberment mechanics- I think everything about this game rules.
Not to mention this part:
Does anyone else appreciate this series as much as I do? I love the mix of creepy atmosphere with the more linear thrill-ride section. I even played the SHIT out of the multiplayer in Dead Space 2. Played it pretty much daily until it became hard to find players in the last few months.
Does anyone know what is in the pipe for Dead Space 3? Last I heard was a snow planet.

First game was awesome. Second game just descended into the Horror Porn most horror games go for. I would liken it to the difference between Alien and Aliens.
Here's to hoping Dead Space 3 doesn't end up like Alien 3.

awesome! I love snow in video games!
I feel it became somewhat cool to hate on the Dead Space franchise at some point in time 'cause I heard a lot of people talk down on it, referring to "only jump scares", "action game" and whatnot. I didn't really understand those complaints as they mostly seem to be hung up on the semantics of scariness vs. tension and stuff like that. This week's brief bombcast discussion reminded me how awesome both games were. That return to the Ishimura was the shit! Their version of Nemesis, this unkillable Necromorph that starts chasing you at some point ... man!
I found Dead Space extremely boring and repetitive. I went it hoping to get scared, but it was just monster closet, or in the games case vents, after monster closet. The enemies were super easy to kill, ammo was everywhere, I never once felt like I was in danger of dying and they couldn't even get me with cheap jump scares because you could always see from a mile away where the next guys would be spawning from.
As for DS2, I never played it beyond the first 5-10 min, but from what I saw and heard from around the site it didn't look like it was going to be much different.

In what way? Alien 3 was a cool idea that got raped by Fox. I wouldn't mid going back to the more "Haunted House" feel of the first one but I know that would never happen.
Loved Dead Space 1. It was my first horror game, (I'm just not into horror generally), and well it scared me to death. It's just a well done game with shooting combat and weapons that I really appreciated, although I'm usually not into shooters.
What I considered the best about it however were the atmosphere, characters and most importantly the overall lore. That Dead Space universe struck me as awesome pretty early on. Those "animated" comic issues were a joy as that extra background info was nice to absorb.
Do I love Dead Space 2 as well? Yes, I do - with a but.
I think the gameplay improvements where quite nice and it did a lot right.
But I gotta say the story was pretty convoluted and, well shit really. Instead of a couple interesting revelations we got some really stupid plot which felt like nothing but a basis for gameplay, especially the first half. The whole Giant Marker thing felt cheap and it's just disappointing that Dead Space 2 couldn't deliver in that area.
Not only that but the 2 Dead Space animes belong to the worst movies I've ever watched. The second one especially, such a bad cash-in attempt. Instead of providing further interesting information about that lore these movies rather take away from it by being just so bad.
And well with EA publishing this I don't have the highest hopes for the future of that franchise. I mean the developers are competent but EA...
Dead Space is one of my favorite series of this generation. I've played all the games and even read the book.

seems like the easy solution to the problem would've been a higher difficulty setting.
Liked a lot of the series so far & thought that they're both quite good in the Alien vs. Aliens (films) choice on picking a favorite. The game was a lot scarier in DS1 but DS2 had some great moments but better environments (and better zero-g movement) with less scary bits. Both are still highly recommended & curious to see what's next on that franchise.

I love both but like the first game significantly more.
The second one was too easy. I actually felt tension in the first, even if I wasn't actually scared on a psychological level, as even in the first game it was all jump scares.
Also, there were too many 'safe zones' in the sequel. Why did you never get attacked while floating in zero g? I loved that in the first game - the absence of sound had me constantly checking my corners and realising just how much I relied on sound cues to alert me to an enemy's presence.
I really didn't find the second game anywhere near as playful and inventive in a lot of ways. The enemy variation was also not the huge step up I had been hoping for. A solid action game but, then again, so was the first.
Love the dead space franchise, it set up tension and atmosphere really well, when Isaac said he had to go back aboard the Ishimura I was shouting at him for how stupid an idea that was as though a ship that could only have a few hundred necromorphs would be way worse than a huge space station full of thousands and thousands of necromorphs. The Ishimura had this sense of dread around it and I loved the way they set up the approach to it, with the giant USG Ishimura designation up there like a late title card.
I will suck this franchises dick all day, every day.
@DeF: I tried. Still didn't do anything for me. It was just too easy to hit those weak points on the legs.

Anyway, I was thinking about Dead Space recently and I came to the conclusion that I really love the Dead Space franchise - that is, everything except the action parts. I love, the setting, characters, story, audio, enemy design, weapon design, environments, lighting, the "HUD", the general atmosphere; sadly, I think they fail on the horror front though. I would be really happy if Dead Space 3 has far fewer enemies (like 3/4 fewer); what I would love to see instead is more tense enemy encounters. Oh, and absolutely no enemies pretending to be dead and then jump all up in your face and going "RAWR".
Basically, they really need to take what is already great with the franchise and then heavily study Amnesia and Penumbra.
I am really hoping they announce #3 during E3; I'm also hoping that if they do announce it, that it will have a good PC version - one that isn't Origin exclusive D:
Dead Space 2 is incredible, one of the few games i've enjoyed by playing along with somebody, sometimes calling each other on skype and playing through levels together, really enjoyed it.

Word. Alien 3 doesn't deserve the hate it gets, considering the disaster that production was, Fincher made a pretty watchable movie out of a potential disaster. Don't get me started on Resurrection though...barf.
I love the Dead Space series, they're way up on my list of favorite games. My only criticism would be some of the creature designs. They're not really creepy for the most part, they just look kinda messed up. It seems the farther you get from looking human, the less creepy it gets. Then they're just space monsters. Still though, awesome games.
I love the Dead Space games. They are so well made and the controls are perfect. Can't wait for whatever is next.

I think that Alien just set the bar too high. I think what bothered me the most about Aliens is that the movie was really about Aliens killing people and people with big guns shooting them. While ALien was really about giving a women a man's view on pregnancy, fear of being orally rapped, and overall sexual abuse by using the Aliens as a metaphor for those themes.

Yeah, I love Aliens but it was definitely more balls to the wall action and less of the psychological horror that made the first movie so good. Really stoked to see what Ridley Scott does with Prometheus.
I remember when the first trailers came out for Deadspace where devs were talking up the dismemberment mechanics and it caught my attention just in that they were doing something different, but I actually wasn't very interested in the franchise until I saw that Ben Templesmith was doing a tie in comic for the game and then I got really interested because I think his art style is incredible. So I got the comic and the game, and watched the movie and I enjoyed all of it. I enjoyed the second Deadspace just as much as the first. I really enjoy the fiction, the atmosphere, the cinematic quality of the games, and the characters.
I think what really tied into my enjoyment of the game was that I've never played them on anything less than the hardest setting they let you roll with right off the bat; the lowering of the bar when it comes to the normal difficulty level in games obviously affects all games in terms of enjoyment, but really hits survival horror genre games hard. If I'm playing a survival horror game I fully expect that I should die in at most 3 hits, if not there's no fear of death and it completely removes you from the atmosphere and narrative the game is trying to create. This is a dangerous place, you shouldn't be able to bumble around and shrug off enemies.
I got the platinum trophy for part 1 and have part 2 waiting for me at home. (I'm on vacation) I bought and beat the iPod game. I saw both movies and the walkthroughs of the spin off games on YouTube. So yes, I love the series.
No, I appreciate Dead Space more (probably). YES! I love Dead Space. No ha, um, yeah all we've heard was that it's going to take place on a snowy planet, and that Isaac will have to deal with a dark side to him, and something about saving someone early on I believe. The last part may not be true, but I know the other two things are what we've heard so far.
Yes, they are both fantastic games. I can't point out many problems with either of them, and the few problems I can come up with are pretty petty and wouldn't be noticed at all in lesser games.
For DS3, though, I hope they change the formula a good bit. I would rather it be only tangentially related and include a different character. Possibly have us play as the girl from the second game and focus more on horror this time around? That won't happen, but I think it might do the franchise some good. The ice planet idea is something I like very, very much - a vast ice tundra or snowy hills with a large base around could really increase the feel of loneliness and helplessness without depending on flashing lights and blood splatters all over everything.
I really like Dead Space 1. I ADORE Dead Space 2. I think that the first one was a really cool advancement of RE4 style shooters. The limb-severing almost made encounters into mini-puzzles. The second game is less scary. I'll give it that. However, I like what they did to flesh out the story. Halfway through Dead Space 2, I realized that this may be my favorite lore in a series outside of Mass Effect. Isaac Clarke also became a character who, though many weren't too keen on, I thought was pretty interesting.
As for the highlights, I may have to put my favorite moments in list form.
The 3-way dropship/Isaac/Necromorph fight.
The HALO Jump. Good god, that was badass.
Stabbing Stross in the face with the Screwdriver.
The eye surgery scene.
Re-visiting The Ishimura.
And finally, the last pre-credits scene that plays off of your expectations of how horror movies (and the previous game) end in a pretty funny manner.
Dead Space is one of my favorite series of this generation. I pray to god EA doesn't fuck 3 up.
