Excellent shooter with great supporting features 0

Dead Space took what RE4 did with the over-the-shoulder view and ran with it.  Dead Space controls much like RE5 did with the over-the-shoulder camera angle and point of view.  That is really where the similarities end however.  The story is pretty good and the gameplay is pretty great as well.  The focus on taking out enemies limbs instead of just pumping ammo into their body as a whole is very refreshing.  It encourages specific aiming rather than spraying.  The use of Power Cells to level up ...

    Dead Space Living Experience 0

I originality played this game when it first released. I did not give it enough time or attention though. I should have. I beat this game over the course of the past 3 days, and I haven't had this much fun with a single player game In a long time. I became very entangled in the lore and back story of the Dead Space universe. After beating the first game I found myself reaching for the second game immediately. I give this game a 5 out of 5 for achieving what it claimed to achieve. It is a dark an...

PC dead space review. Weak story, Good level design. 0

First off let's just get it out of the way that I don't like scary games. In fact, i don't like being scared. That being said, the last game to actually scare me was phantasmagoria, cause that shit was just straight up messed, but on the good side was also way scarier game than dead space. Where dead space wins its points is level design. That game is spread across different sections of the large ship and along your 15 hour or so trek, you'll be sent to through-out each of its corridors and leve...

Flawless game design, despite some obvious plot turns. 0

It says a lot for Dead Space that -- despite the derivative "alien outbreak" sci-fi storyline and cardboard characters -- it's still an incredible achievement. When the game design is this good, and so flawlessly executed, it's easy to forgive Dead Space's less-than-satisfying exposition. The story snob in me wishes the final "twists" weren't telegraphed so obviously (and then over-explained after the fact). The key relationship between you and your wife is also underdeveloped -- if you cared m...

A roller coaster ride from the start to the end.. 0

When I got Dead Space, it was so that I could play an exciting game whenever my friends came over. And because of being busy with schoolwork and our daily lives, those times did not come a lot.. Yes, that was the story for half of the game. But somewhere past the half, (which took us months to reach), I was injected to play the game all by myself.                                                                                And I Couldn't Stop  Dead Space is basically a Survivor-Horror-Third Pe...

    Dead Space 0

I've been living off cheap, slightly older games on Steam for a while now. Dead Space is another one with a sequel coming out soon, and while the original didn't sell like gangbusters, it built up a lot of cachet with regular gamers because of the things it did right. As a horror third person shooter set in space, there isn't much about the game that's original. The setting is a hodgepodge of various science fiction horror films, and to say that the gameplay was merely inspired by Reside...

    Resident Evil Dethroned 0

About 3 hours into Dead Space I knew it was true, the Resident Evil franchise had been dethroned as the best IP in action/survival horror.     Dead Space, like all great titles in the genre, is all about balance and choices. As Isaac progresses through the USG Ishimura and aliens take chunks out of him, you will have to make some hard choices. There are a few additions that Dead Space adds to the genres staples which add layers to your decision making. The classic inventory choices are here, so ...

Dead Space retrospective: Not just for Horror Fans 0

Since Dead Space and Dead Space 2 were both reviewed here by the same guy that enjoyed the latest Silent Hill I felt compelled to provide a review from someone that has not enjoyed a Horror/Survival game since Resident Evil 2.  While Silent Hill was not a favorite and gave me something of a minor uncomfortable fright, I don't believe Brad's enjoyment of Dead Space is any reflection of his open mindedness for horror/survival based games.  Dead Space is just a f''ing good game.    Do you like powe...

Solid gameplay, but cliche story and monster closest ruin it 0

Dead Space is a sci-fi survival horror game developed by Electronic Arts and released in 2008. In the game the player takes control of engineer Isaac Clarke, who battles himself through hordes of mutated creatures on the spaceship USG Ishimura. The setting takes quite some inspiration from movies like Event Horizon, while the gameplay is very similar to that of Resident Evil 4.As far as story is concerned there really isn't much positive to say about Dead Space. A few moments after arriving on ...

A perfect balance of action and pure terror 0

I remember picking this game up because I was looking for something new. I loved the Resident Evil Series. I loved Doom 3. F.E.A.R. was interesting, but quickly forgotten. Now I needed something new to creep me out and cause me to jump off the couch in the wee hours of the morning. That something new was Deadspace. You assume the role of Isaac Clarke, an engineer aboard a rescue ship inbound for the USG Ishimura. The Ishimura is a huge space ship affectionately called a "planet crac...

Awesome combat with lots of thrills. A tad too repetitive 0

Dead Space was EA's entry into the survival horror genre and their return to the decidedly "M" rated game, after a long hiatus since System Shock 2 and Clive Barker's Undying. It is a game that takes few risks, opting mostly to lift its design and storytelling from other games such as Doom 3, System Shock 2, and Resident Evil 4. There are worse games to emulate, and to its credit, Dead Space is a highly polished amalgamation of the best elements from those titles. It adds some positive features ...

Dead Space is one of the most engrossing games this generation 0

Before Dead Space came out I was very skeptic about it's quality as a horror game, since the actual horror genre seemed to be replaced with mindless shooters. The pre-launch trailers didn't help change my mind since they were all focusing on the action, making this game look like Gears of War in space. Yes, I know this game doesn't feature any cover mechanics, but that's what I was thinking of everytime I saw the trailers. Fortunately I couldn't have been more wrong about it, and this game turne...

    Doesn't Hold Up 0

I don't know what Dead Space is trying to be. The controls are very slow and clumsy and the camera is jammed in so close it creates a disorientating effect that has to be intentional. This signifies it is meant to be a horror game. But then it keeps throwing fast enemies at you in action setpieces for which the clumsy controls, claustrophobic camera, and tight corridors are not suited at all. The obvious comparison point would be Resident Evil 4. However, while that game's control scheme was con...
