The quality of the voice acting is to me, clearly a notch above the average Japanese -> Eng localizations, both in games and anime.

    Anyone else agree?

I wouldn't know whether to put the credit on the VAs or the direction, or probably both, but there really is something seriously lacking the localized VAs for other games.

I found it terrible. None of the lines of dialogue went with each other lines. Flat.

There's no localization in Deadly Premonition, the voice acting is the same in the Japanese one.

And I loved it. Jeff Kramer nailed York.

Yes that's right. That's why I was more inclined to say it was the direction being the credit. By virtue of SWERY being an eng speaker, he could give VA criticism directly on the english, whereas other localization efforts sound like they just phone it in.

To be honest I was taken initially aback by York's voice acting, but it eventually grew on me. But I can't recall any instances where York had substantial lines with emotion in them. On the other hand I was very impressed by George and Emily and some of the other characters from the onset, very nice.

    Could you elaborate on this.

I don;t know how to explain it but it just was one noted and everything was said in a bad sitcom nature to it.

I have to admit Issac and Issiah were pretty terrible, but Polly was awesome.

Most of the voice acting is very solid, in my opinion. Some of the delivery is a bit off at times, but I still love it. (Like when George says that he'll have the townsfolk gather the next day, and York's like, "THANK YOOOOUUU....George." XD)

It's a mixed bag, like everything in this game. I thought York was perfect, and the main cast (George, Emily) were mostly pretty good. But the supporting characters really ranged from quite good to very bad. Delivery was really weird sometimes as well.

If anything was right in this game it was the voice acting.

The twins and Thomas were the only characters whose voices were just constantly bad.

I think it's amazing that they got this quality of voice acting out of a budget title, sure, but wouldn't call it amazing in general. Was definitely good though and held up some of the other parts of the game.

I really liked the voice acting too. I was very impressed by Jeff Kramer actually - he was fantastic and emotional at the end as Zach, and had York and Zach sounding... well, different but the same. All in the inflection and emotion, I thought that was really cool.

The only characters I can think of that had atrocious voice acting was Isaac and Isaiah. Other than that, everybody else's was pretty great. York and Kaysen, for me, were exceptional.

Yeah   Kaysen was another great one too.

Edit: Also the way the voices faded out the further you got away from the speaker was amazing. It gave it a real 3d feel to everything, and made the camera feel like its own individual person. WHICH IT WAS. More games should learn this trick, it's really helps immersion.

Yeah I thought it had superb voice acting as well... except for Isaac and Isaiah, but they're children so what do you expect.

The voice acting is rock solid.  Some of the best I've heard in recent years.

It was also nice to not hear Yuri Lowenthall, Amanda Win-lee, Johhny Bosch or Nolan North in a videogame for once.

A bit of a mixed bag but considering the low budget of that game I'd say it was overall a superb job.

The voice acting is definitely better than something like Heavy Rain's.

I also thought it was really neat how York would "ALWAYS TALK LIKE THIS" whenever he talked to Polly, since her character is supposed to be hard of hearing.
